I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S.

When ever it is idleing and i hit the gas it bogs like its going to stall but then revs up. Difficult to get out of first because of the bog might stall it. Does anyone know what this could be?

My check engine light came on and it said rich fuel as well as oxygen sensor.
Do u guys think that an oxygen sensor would cause this because their are 2 and are expensive if i change it and turns out not to be the prob.

Thanx

Well if anyone wanted to know what i did i replaced the O2 sensor and did not work.
I then took off the MAF sensor and she ran smooth, so if anyone has the same problem as i did check and clean the MAF sensor first and you will prob. save some money.

same problem.. i think?

My 2000 Celica's check engine light is on and it stalls when my car just idles.. sometimes in reverse it dies completely. When I take off from a complete stop it stalls to where I have to put it into neutral and rev the engine then slide the gear to drive just for my car to go and when I stop it sputters and acts like it is going to die. Are the problems that I am having with my automatic Celica about the same that you had with your GT-S??

im not a 100% sure if its the same prob as i had, but take out the map sensor and clean it out with carb cleaner and use a qtip have to get it in the light to see the crud built up. try that can be a quick cheap fix.

Thanks!! I will definitely try that.. I have a friend coming over day after tomorrow to change my fuel filter and MAF so hopefully that fixes my problem. I do know there was some engine problem that Toyota knew about with the 2000 Celicas so I am wondering if that is it also.. earlier when I was looking it said something about the fuel injectors and the computer having a problem or something.. I will find the link where I found that.. it was in another forum so it may not be completely true..

I already did the fuel injector cleaner a couple months ago. I generally do that every time I get an oil change and it didn't help. I have had problems since I got the car with the exhaust or something making a rattling sound when I accellerate[sp?].

if you were wondering..

if anyone was wondering what i found out about my car.... apparently the previous owner tried to fix some problem with the car and pulled some of the emissions things out and caused the computer to read the air intake at below 20 degrees so the place i have my car at had to the part to [hopefully] fix it.. so hopefully whatever part they ordered will do the trick.. so far the repair cost is up to $300 that i don't have..

Oh wow, I've got a 2000 celica also and I noticed this same dang rattling sound about 6 months ago, it's starting to get worse, any idea what that sound is? I had one guy look at it and said he didn't hear anything, whatEVER b/c it's so obvious when you accelerate!!!

I also have the o2 sensor code thingy reading out when I had Auto Zone plug me up to their code reader so I've got to have some work done on mine too. I guess basically I need to start out with having the O2 sensor replaced and then go from there?

is that illegal where you're from? where i am it is illegal to remove emissions components from your car.

Yes, i do believe it is illegal and the girl i bought the car who was 9 months pregnant by the way said she was only getting rid of the car because her husband wanted her to have something bigger with the baby... she claimed she had no problems with the car ever but when i got the car.. it had no heat and it went through 2 large bottles of any color coolant before i had heat again.. i found that slightly fishy when i realized that a few weeks after getting the car so she must have been lying to me about a few things..

Heather76.. I have no idea what the rattling is.. all i know is that it is super irritating and embarrassing when you accellerate past cars because it gains a lot of attention.. I didn't have any O2 sensor codes when i had my car scanned so i would definitely get it checked out before anything else happens to your car! If you find out what is causing that rattling before me, please let me know.

Thanks Everyone

Alright.. so they think my car is fixed.. they replaced the MAF, oxygen sensors, fuel injectors, and i think the thing that was causing the computer to read the air intake level as below 20.. gonna cost $1200.. but if thats all the problems i had... i guess it will be well worth it becuase i love my car and don't want anything to happen because if it breaks down for good.. i am out of a car! this forum really helped me with the problems because before my dad took it to the shop for me.. i named off everything that i thought was wrong with it and I'LL BE DAMNED... i'm no auto mechanic and i was completely right!

Get your car into the shop and have the O2 sensors replaced.. it will cost you a pretty penny but that might be your only problem right now..

is the rattling maybe your exhaust vibrating against an exhaust hanger or some other component? if it was a constant sound then i would suggest it's your wheel bearing/assembly, but your description of the sound doesn't match.
