Ok guys need help bad! 01 Avalon 120k miles. Check engine light is on and abs light. PO500 speed sensor A is the trouble code. No speedometer and trany is shifting weird. First I changed the speed sensor on top of tranny. No luck. Next battery tested bad so I replaced it. No luck. Next I put a multimeter on all 4 abs wheel sensors and spun to check for output voltage and it looked good. Last I checked the plug to the tranny speed sensor for a good ground and it looks good. One mechanic suggested the combination meter could be bad. Wanted to get some advice here before pulling the dash and all.

My brother had a 2000 Camry LE. It had a similar problem, after replacing the vss at the transmission, diagnosed by Toyota Dealer, I found a fix on Toyota nation where someone took out their instrument cluster, loosened and tightened all the screws on the back of the cluster, printed circuit to gauges, this fixed his Camrys speedometer and check engine light.
