I recently bought tires for my recently purchased used salvaged toyota corolla 2001 VE, size 195/60R14. The recommended size is 175/60R14 but the tires purchased will also work. The main problem is when i drive into a hole or a dip my car mainly my back left to front left tires, sometimes the right side tires, will scape the tire. Is there a solution to stop this scrapping, note that i recently purchased this used car and may need to replace things. Please tell me what I can do. Also when the car is full i can really tell that the car is nearly touching the car before I replaced the old tires that were all different even the treading, the car did not scrape itself.

you must be transporting a decent load there. the car has a tendency to sag in the rear when loaded. not sure if it's an inherent design or the coil springs sagged. the 195's are actually larger than your 175. the 60 is the aspect ration meaning the sidewall is 60% of 195mm. so you have a taller sidewall on the 195 than you did on the 175. even though this is minimal 15mm may be the difference when it's loaded. one of my friends out here got a set of k sport coil overs because he didn't want the car scraping when he was hauling his band equipment around. basically it's an increase in spring rate as well as dampening.

To keep it simple, the OEM struts and springs should be replaced. You must have close to or over 100k on them. I run the same tire size on a CE with worn out KYB GR-2's and eibach springs. My car never scrapes.

You will probably stil get rubbing with new struts and springs and 195's, at least on larger bumps and swells. Rolling the fender lips will eliminate the rubbing, or switch back to 175/65s or 185/65's

Thats not to say your suspension doesn't need attention, it probably does at this age and milage.
