Hi i have a 2001 corolla, I bought an hid kid ... not on ebay. But i don't want to return to projector light because I am on night delivry and I want to clearly see. But i know the hid in projector housing can glare the other, so i want to know if it possible to change the halogen headlight to a true and legal hid headlight. I don't want to buy something that will not change the beam pattern, I don't want to glare the other. I bought a 5000 k to reduce that.

I heard something about projector headlight, but somes are for halogen and the other for hid, and i heard about retrofit headlight, but i don't know what it is .

Thank you !

Sorry for my english I'm french from quebec , so please don't bash me about my spelling errors l

I think all aftermarket HID's are illegal. But that could depend on state.
Correct. All plug and play HID kits that go into a parabolic halogen reflector headlight are illegal since HIDs are not designed for those lenses. To make it legal, you would have to retrofit an already existing HID assembly from a car that comes equipped with HIDs from the factory into your headlight. However, this can be very expensive in most cases. My advice to you is to make sure you have anti-glare cutoff shields installed with the HIDs if they don't come with the HID kit. This will reduced the majority of glare to oncoming traffic. Lowering the beams will also help reduce bounce up glare even further. I do this myself and I have never gotten any problems from the authorities.
hi

thank you for you answer, just a little question , what is an anti-glare cutoff shields ?
It's a piece or curved metal that wraps around a section of the HID filament to block the bounce up glare.

These specific ones are for H4 bulbs, but they look something like this:

Hey Danmp,

I live in Quebec too. I also have a Corolla with a HID system coming from a Lexus. I read the law and nothing says that you cant install an HID system on a car, since the light output is still white, as per what the law says.

Here's a link from the SAAQ website so you can take a look..

... and here's the link of the Code de la securite routiere..

Équipement.
215. Tout véhicule automobile autre qu'une motocyclette et qu'un cyclomoteur, doit être muni d'au moins:
1° deux phares blancs, simples ou jumelés, placés à l'avant, à la même hauteur, de chaque côté de l'axe vertical central et aussi espacés que possible l'un de l'autre;
I've been pulled over from the police a few times but after a long time searching in their books, they never managed to find the right offence i was doing.
Canadian laws may allow it, but here in California, all PnP HID kits are illegal.
ah cool !, thank you for the information:thumbup:, but i will try to do an homemade shield to see the difference.

That's very doable. I remember seeing homemade shields and DIYs when I was searching the internet. Some used nickels at the terminal section of the cutoff shield.
has anyone actually done a retrofit?
i'm thinking of copping some cheap fx projectors and doing one as the only mod to my car. i haven't seen it on this gen corolla yet and i want to be ablet envision what it'll do cosmetically for this car.

Many people have done them for the 8th gen Corolla already. It's expensive, that's why it's not that popular. I wouldn't go with cheap projectors. You won't get that sharp a cutoff or light dispersion. I would go for TSX or S2000 projectors.

it's not too too bad, like 4 - 500 in parts. i mean cheap as in hooked up, not crappy. i have a friend who was going to retrofit a set of fx35's into his es300 but ended using a pair of '06 sti projectors. i personally love the way it looks and the better viewing with the hid's.
