I was driving my wife’s 1st gen Highlander yesterday, cruise control worked fine. Then today, on our drive home, I was unable to use cruise control. When I would click the button to turn it on, the green ‘Cruise Control’ dash light came on, but when I clicked down to set my speed, it didn’t do anything.

Brake lights work and no blown fuses. Hoping someone here can help out!

I’ll have to try pulling on the pedal. The check engine light is on—the code is for the downstream o2 sensor.

Try clearing the code and see if the cruise works. Also, even if you had a code before that did not interrupt the cruise, you may have a new one that does. You may need to re-check.

you were spot on—the CEL went off and cruise works now. P0136 code has been on and off for a little bit. Time to change the post-cat sensor.
