I purchased a used Prius for my teenage daughter and it was the greatest car until she hydo-planed and took out the driver's side front suspension. I'm trying to replace the lower control arm and axle rod. I have not had to work on the front end of a Toyota and could use some help. First, it looks like the bolt that connects the lower control arm to the chassis will hit the trans-axle case before releasing the lower control arm. Is there a trick or do I need to raise the engine? Second, I purchased a manual to give me some pointers and it describes using a pry bar to release the axle rod. I have been pounding the pry bar with a hammer and can't get the axle to release. Is there a tool or technique that will help? I don't want to continue pounding on the pry bar and damage the aluminum housing.
Thanks for any advice!
