Hi, Let me start with my name is Ryan. I bought my wifes - dads 2002 Toyota solara v6 convertible last year. It has 115,500 miles on it. Sooooooo well her dad was a Toyota mechanic for like 20 years longtime ago so he kinda questions me on my judgement on fixing a car, especially the one he use to own. So the problem is the solara runs and drive fine but the damn check engine light comes on with a PO172 System Too Rich (Bank 1) error. Like a good mechanic he saved all the old parts he replace. So off the top he thought it was a mass air flow sensor issue. He replace the factory one with an autozone one part number DL-3015 and that did not resolve the issue. The light stays off for a bout 15 mins drive time then clicks on. He said it seems to do it during the winter and cold temps. I did a ton of research online and like a bad person got into just replacing parts. So I did the air filter, BOTH o2 sensors with DENSO ones... $$… all the spark plugs and wires and coil packs. I even did the PCV valve. Ive kinda run outta parts to replace or know what to do?

Well I hope you learned your lesson about throwing parts at it. And I hope you learn in the near future for most any part attached to the motor, and especially the parts you listed above there is no substitute for OEM parts. Denso makes a lot of the OEM sensors coils and ignition parts so you can get them online for the same price you'd pay for knockoff parts at Autozone. And before I get off my soapbox, a former Toyota mechanic ought to know not to get Autozone ignition or emission parts.

I did go back and reread your post, it sounds like you've done a lot of research on this problem. Have you read this P0172 Code Help? A lot of those parts were due to be replaced, gas caps don't last that long, O2 sensors in the 150K and up range. Even things like aftermarket air filters can cause problems, dirtying up maf sensors and the like.
