Hi,

I have a 2004 Camry 4 cyl with about 22k miles. Car runs fine except for say the first 5 minutes of driving. Usually after I start the car then drive there is a crackling sound in the dash only when the car is moving, sometimes on the left and sometimes in the center. I thought it was loose wires from my aftermarket car alarm, but I tied those down.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Crackling Sound

I'll check the air pipes again. I did replace the air filter and looked in the air filter box, it did look okay. I think it is something mechanical/physical, not electrical.

^I'm getting a similar sound in my '02. I get it in the first 5 minutes of driving, or at high speeds... I've been trying to figure out what it is and can't...

Hey, if someone can figure out what it is, and makes a DIY of how to fix it, and it actually works, I'll freakin' PayPal the guy $10 or something...

If it's a rattle instead of a crackle, then there's a TSB to replace the intake manifold on 2002-2004 Camry's.

If I heard crackling under my dash I'd suspect arcing solder joints on wiring.

No, my Injen SRI is fine. Its not coming from the engine bay, its coming from the dash.

No, I did understand, but its not my intake or my manifold. Its not an engine bay sound, nor does it sound like a snorting pig.

obviously no one really knows how to fix it or what it even is!

we'll go on and on trying to figure out if the sound comes from a pig or a cow.

is it a rattle, crackle, pop, snap, snort, pop?
it doesnt matter,
"the sound" comes from the dash, it's not speakers, and nothing's loose in the glove compartment. no its not coming from the engine bay.

So without other useless replies, does ANYONE know what this is or how to deal with it???

2005 Camry 4cyl crackling sound in dash - potential answer

Hi,

After doing a bit more research on this forum and calling some mechanics. I did a search on this forum for "heater core" and think I found my problem. I think my 'crackling' may be more 'gurgling'. I did stop the car with the engine running. And it did sound like liquid moving in the dash.

It sounds like it may just be the coolant entering/exiting the heater core and thus making a lot of noise. There may also be some air in the cooling system too. The heater & AC do work on my vehicle.

Thanks for all your help!
