2005 Xrs Fuel Treatment

Hi Everyone,

I bought an 05 Xrs a while ago (best decision I ever made, btw). I've been taking it in to the dealer for its regular maintenance, and I use the recommended 91 octane fuel.

My question is that should I be adding any injection cleaner or other fuel treatments on a regular basis? 91 octane fuel from certain gas stations claims to have higher levels of detergents, so I'm not sure if adding fuel treatments/cleaners is necessary or not. Please let me know if you have any advice. I haven't noticed any reduction in power or anything, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks!

Greg

No there is no use for any fuel additives. I read that they can sometimes cause issues in the injectors or cylinder misfiring etc. Just stick with the required premium gas and switch to synthetic oil after 8000 KM. That is it.

By the way, where are you located in Canada??
If you've been buying your gas at no-name stations, and especially if they aren't a Top Tier fuel then you may not be getting sufficient detergents in your fuel. It certainly won't hurt to run some fuel injector cleaner every few months. I personally like RedLine SI-1, Lucas injector cleaner is also another good product.
Hi,

Thanks for the advice; I do normally get "top tier" fuel (Shell). I know it is supposed to have quite a bit of detergent in it; so I guess I'm probably okay.

@ Silver04rollas: I'm in Guelph, ON. Yourself?

Thanks again,

Greg
The Toyota dealer uses a fuel treatment at the scheduled services for my Kluger/Highlander and Corolla (both still under warranty) and I use Redline S1 in the recommended small amounts at every tank of fuel in both cars. Supposed to keep injectors and fuel system clean, had no problems so far and both cars running beautifully.

The best FUEL treatment for your car.... use Sunoco ULTRA94. :D

I usually use performance plus Octane 94 in the spring and summer and then switch to Octane 91 during fall and winter.

As for my location, it is pretty far from you...LOL. I live in the west (Calgary, Alberta). I was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, though.
