I have a 2006 Avalon Ltd with 205,000 miles on it. Lately it seems like the gas mileage has been creping up (gotten better). Is this maybe because the timing chain is wearing out? I put new plugs in at 105,000 miles. Comments?
While it's possible to have a little dwell from an engine with 205K on its (assumed) original timing chain, I doubt that it would result in a mileage improvement.
I envy the OP. I have an '06 Avalon XL with approx. 210K on the clock. Gas mileage has fallen off. Started doing this in Feb. of this year. At first I thought it was winter fuel. We're past that. Most of the usual suspects check out OK.
I may have to break down and replace the A/F and O2 sensors. Hesitant to do so as there are no pending/active codes for that and we might be getting rid of the Avalon later in the year.
