I recently bought an Avalon (130,000 miles) sporting the VVT oil line with the rubber section. I'm hoping to tackle this job myself with all the helpful posts archived in this wonderful forum. I'm confused about the part number though:

All the guides I've come across reference the #15772-13030 but toyotapartsdeal.com claims this part does not fit the 2GR-FE in my Avalon. It then points me to 15707-31010 or 15707-31011 which were both replaced by the 15707-31012. But I can't find 15707-31012 anywhere! 15707-31010 has the same part code and looks to be the proper shape, but I was hoping for someone with more experience and knowledge to set my mind at ease and confirm this is the part I'm looking for before I order it.

Thanks for all your help

It is in stock at lexuspartsnow.com
13030 may also fit I think this is the same case like Lexus LS460 control arm where they have updated and improved the part and it will fit the older model but they still don't show it to be compatible.

VVT p/n

The info I'm finding is pointing to part number: 15771-31010

There's a bunch of info about this issue on the RAV forum

I was unaware of this problem until I saw your post. I'll be checking the wife's 2008 and going with the metal tube if it hasn't previously been installed.

It seems the RAV4 community has an easier go of it without having to mess with the power steering.

Thanks for the pointer, banditcilik, about lexusparts. I'm going to grab the 31012 and the gaskets I'll need. Hopefully I can reuse all the bolts.

The factory fix for the original rubber hose was to replace it with an upgraded rubber hose. The upgraded hose has a yellow stripe on it. My 2008 Avalon had the fix done on it and I've put at least 230k miles on it since then (it has 320k on it now) and the replaced hose looks like new. I had purchased the metal parts, but never installed them (and probably won't now). If it has the factory fix done (look for the yellow stripe), you're probably fine in my opinion. Cheers!

I ended up getting the 15772-31030 too after lexuspartsnow sent me a second invoice asking for more money. I plan to get the upper and lower gaskets from my dealership and tackle the project this week. Dealership wanted $100 for the tube, but an ebay one was $37.

Wow, local dealers really stick it too you! I picked up mine from Modern Toyota, a wholesaler, for $22 plus shipping, so about the same as ebay. I also, ordered a ton of other stuff too, so justified.
