A temporary spare tire is the proper term for what manny people refer to as
a "donut" spare, so a vehicle with a temporary spare tire will have a jack
as well. A temporary tire is generally lighter than a full-size spare and
is often used to improve fuel economy ratings since the vehicle is hauling
around less weight. As the name suggests, temporary tires should not be
used for long distances because they do not dissipate heat as well as a
conventional tire and the narrower tread width can affect vehicle handling
and load capacity.
