My 2006 Corolla ASCENT "2nd Tear Drop Remote Fob" was struggling to open the Car Doors & light the "its working Red LED" when pressing the Rubber Button, had been getting progressively worse.

So opened the Tear Drop Key Fob & pressed the MicroSwitch directly, the Key Fob worked easily as intended ie its not a flat battery, damaged micro Sw or poor Solder Joint on the Micro Sw.
Button Battery Tested separately = Good

Being a "Single Button" Tear Drop Remote Fob, the button gets twice the button pressing of the alternate two button integral to Key Head Remotes that came on the Conquest & Levin Models, so the "Internal Rubber Button Wears"

So…Fixed it today the same way I did the "1st Tear Drop Remote Fob" a couple of years back & thought I would share because its a common problem……
If yours has the problem of worn internal Rubber Actuator onto the “PCB Mounted Micro Switch” don’t pay the Dealership for NEW Key Fobs & Re-Programming.

Open, inspect then see if the below works for you.

It may take you a few more years HP, but it will happen. Common as muck

On my AE102 it was always the outer rubber part of the button itself that would fall apart (similar style remote but not identical), you ran the risk then of the actual button (the small pad that's part of the switch soldered to the circuit board) falling out. Could have been a result of the inner part of the rubber falling apart which meant that you had to press the button harder (and wore through with time) but it did tend to display wear from the outside first. Neither of my 122 remotes have any sign of wear yet
