Hi, I received the hood for my camry this morning. It's unfinished and needs a nice bit of paint. The hood scoops are covered with a metal mesh/grille that's built in to the hood. (Note: the hood scoops don't go all the way through to the other side. i.e. they're purely cosmetic scoops). On the plus side...the hood is pretty rigid.

The following are 3 pics of it...currently it sits in my basement. Hopefully, the bodyshop guy will have a look at my hood and car this friday so I can get it painted. I'll later upload pics of the hood when it's on the car.

I don't know how to test fit it so that's why the bodyshop specialist is coming in on friday to make sure everything's in order before I bring it to his shop. I think this also means he might get the paint# and order it before I bring the car in, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, i thought so too :sosad:. I've emailed frank about it and I'll take a second look at the hood tomorrow night. Maybe I'll take some pics closer to the scoops as well.

HAH! I told yall!!! Functional my blinging white butt! Thats some straight up false adverstisement right there. Functional......... yeah, functional leaf and bug catchers is more like it. Friggin liars they are.

Either way, looks to be of pretty good quality. Not my cup of tea, but if thats the look you're going for, more power to ya. I'd still bitch about the non functionality of their functional hood though.

WOW on the web page it says "Functional hand-laid fiberglass ram-air hood
http://www.rksport.com/main/catalog.asp?mdid=46
and avnishghei posted this answer from RKsport :ALSO ON THE HOOD: weather the person has a 4 cylinder or the V6 Toyota designed the air intake in such a way that the hood works as a FULLY FUNCTIONAL hood to add more performance without having to buy or add anything to the system. The hood forces cold air right in front of the stock air filter system.
and they are fake????Well at this point it doesn't matter, I guess...Well...I'm looking forward to see it installed on you car.....

Thanks for sharing, and post the pics as soon as you have them...

PS: I would dry fit the hood, a company that doesn't know and lie about the product, doesn't give much trust, test fit it before painting it, If it doesn't fit once It's painted, you are gonna loose some money....

Good luck

Unbolt the 4 bolts, You need one person on each side, then re-attach new hood in reverse order. Closing very slowly to make sure the side to side alingment was right

I would definetly bring it to RK's attention. Functinoal yeah right lol... the only performance related feature is prob. the weight savings.

Curious..... if posible, could you weigh the hood vs. stock?

BTW hood looks nice, the billet or stainless mesh grille is a nice touch

^^^^ Yeah, flat-black those grilles so they won't look like home radiator grilles

I agree a flat black on the grille would look great.

Frank requested some pics and then later sent me this response (I guess this may be what the designers of the hood told him):

" The scoops dump out right near the front of the hood. Right into the
intake tract that sits next to the latch."

I originally didn't get it, but later I realized what he was trying to tell me....

The scoops take the air in and then channel it along the rear intake tract, along the sides (to the front nose of the car) and out these tiny little holes in the front of the hood...
...see this picture with the red arrow and circle pointing to the holes:

so sad ...

Wait a minute......... they cant be serious. Ok, so those big vents, are supposed to track the air backwards....... out of those tiny little holes. And they say thats functionality? First of all let me start by saying........ BS........ then ill end by saying........ BS.

Not only is that not even close to being practical, its no where near close to being efficient. And then to say that those tiny holes are the "exhaust" portion of the intake vents. No way. It doesnt even make sense. Why make the intake portion of the vents so large, then have those little air "squirters." And again.... why put those across the front? Why not put a big one right infront of the intake? I dont buy it at all.

Ok so lets say it rains. So now moisture can get trapped inside your hood?

They are feeding you (and the rest of us gen 6 owners) horse shit. They are full of it.

We had a good laugh about the supposed "functionality" of that hood today at work. And if those holes are anything, they would be an attachment point for a rubber molding/seal type of thing. Not an exit point for the "super air" that is supposed to come out of there. Because god knows, in order for the air coming in those ducts on that hood to make it BACK to the front of the hood.... the air would have to have super powers, lol.

You know, you might want to look on your stock hood and see if there is some kind of rubber seal along the front edge, and if so, compare the mount of the seal to the holes in your new hood. I cant think off the top of my head if they have them, but on my honda, I had them and there was a seal along the front edge of the hood. Id be almost willing to put money on the fact that thats what those are for.

Again, i like the hood, its cool looking. Not something i would buy, but its cool looking nonetheless. But for them to continue to say its functional?! Why lie? I dont get it, i mean, customers already like the look of it, why lie about its functionality? More than likely the customer will still buy it purely for its aethetic purpose, so there is no reason to make up this "functional air squirter holes with the super ram air ventilation.......blah blah..."

LoL.

can you cut your own exit for the air to escape, assuming there are passages that connect to the front of the hood for the massive amount of airflow? though even if you did do this, i dont think it would really do anything performance wise (coming from the guy with a ram-air camaro hood). even on my car, they are much more decorative than they are performance enhancers.

Hey, I received a response regarding the hood today. Frank spoke directly to the onsite production manager and showed him the pics.

It turns out when they sent me the hood they forgot to make the cut for the air.

I'll talk to him tomorrow to find out exactly where the cut(s) will be made and will also upload any pics (if they send me any).
