Found a 2007 Matrix base model manual with 140,000 miles on it. Considering it for a car for a teen. Fairly clean, no codes, no obvious leaks, starts right up, engine sounds fine, no strain with AC on. From experienced owners anything in particular to look for on the Matrix other than the standard used car checks?I know 140K on a Matrix can either be a little, or a lot if not cared for. Thanks!

Bought mine recently with 156k. It's probably in lesser condition than the one you're looking at but it's solid as a rock. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it as long as the air conditioner works and the engine runs smooth. Although most young ppl prefer automatic transmission just from what I've observed.

Is your teen cool with a manual transmission?

Some teens love a manual transmission so it depends what he or she wants.

Looking at the car inside and out can usually tell you how it was maintained. Is the seller older or some teen? Is the oil clean and to the top of the dipstick? Not much to look at other than the obvious. Sounds like it's a good vehicle.....

Thanks for the replies. Teen is ok with manual. Bad news, I waited too long and its gone ;^) Will keep looking but helps to know there arent any serious issues. I see some reports that 2009 was the worst year.

The 2009 that I had was in real good shape until bout 79,000 miles and then disappeared in 2012. No problems besides minor shifter issues & rattling exhaust shield which was removed by dealer as I was there a few times. If the car was not totaled, then I would have over 200K today with the vehicle. The 09 was very smooth. The tell tale signs should be there.

Oil smoke and consumption would be one thing to look for... some early 1ZZFE did, and the 2AZFE on the 09-up also did as well, more so than the 1ZZ.
