I have a question about the 9 speakers in the base 2008 Avalons. Does this include a sub-woofer? Where are the speakers positioned? In general, how is the quality of the base audio system? Thanks, Mark

I don't now about the base setup, however I have an 05 with the uplevel JBL 12 speaker setup. The highs are acceptable however the base is non-existant. I hung a small 10' SUB an amp off the system it made for a nice balance. If you listen to talk radio/ Classical/ Jazz the standard setup will probally be just fine. I listen to alot of R%B and Hip Hop so I needed just a little but more

Yep, just added an additional speaker to the existing system. Basically I went to Best Buy and got a cheap 10" sub, a cheap amp, and cheap box (not trying to win any competitions) and let them put it in. I think I was out the door for $300. So in my trunk I now have a sub in a box.

Another option available to you is to get an amp and an 8" sub mounted in the stock location in the middle of the package shelf behind the back seat. You'll save a lot of truck space and you get the benefit of the entire truck as a sub box.

I've got the factory JBL system with the sub. It thumbs enough to shake the rear-view mirror. Consider that as an option.

My OEM setup is the JBL 12 spks system. On FM and CD modes I get a descent high and low frequency output (though I'd need to crank up the bass setting to 4; 5 being the highest). Depending on the radio station (difference in broadcasting) and CD (difference in recording) I may need to lower the setting from setting no. 4.

However, when connecting my ipod, the "apparent" sound fidelity is HUGE. Even at bass setting "0", there is more than enough low frequency output. In my opinion, listenind through the Auxiliary jack input (for connecting ipods, etc.) the sound system is at its best, and I mean HUGE, AWESOME. By the way, the bitrate at which I burn songs on the ipod is 320 kbps; not the standard 128 kbps.

I have an 06, I installed a 300 watt Rockford Fosgate amp under the pass front seat and made my own fiberglass box on the pass side cubby in the rear of the trunk. I did not lose any real trunk space and the stereo bumps pretty good. The amp has a remote gain control so I have the knob mounted in one of the accessory panels by the trunk & fuel door release. I can adjust it to whatever I'm listening to instead of monkeying with the amp all the time.

I love it & my wife loves it. Had a hard time finding the right color for the enclosure, so I had to go with something darker. Could always redo it and paint it body color
