Does the Fuel Filter need to be replaced regularly? Is it located in the gas tank?

gas tank...theres no reason to have it changed regularly...as my mech says, the fuel filter can last as long as the car as long as u buy gas from well known places that are popular and u never run ur tank dry...the filter for our cars comes with the fuel pump at TRDsparks.com and cost $600+http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=676&Part_cat=30&parts_id=3631
Wow! That pump is anal rape without lube or protection!

You can buy Walbro fuel pumps all day for the WRX/STi for $150. $600 is fucking ridiculous.
Does anyone know if a 2010 Corolla XRS has a fuel filter...and if so how often it should be replaced?

I think it's in the fuel tank & is designed to be a life time part. Any one know for sure?
