2009 Matrix replacement key. So I went to the locksmith and brought two blanks. He tested them and thought they were chip key blanks so he cut one. He had this fancy machine and tried repeatedly to program it and it didn't work. The blanks I brought were a little different than the one key I got with the car a couple of years ago. So he cut a blank he had that he thought would work. Same result. He said he thought that the reason they didn't work was because the computer memory was full. It had 5 keys programmed into it. I read somewhere where you could only program in 4 remote fobs, so this seems plausible. Has anyone had this problem before? Is there a way to delete the keys I don't have to make room for a new one?

The locksmith probably only has the programmer tool. You need the tool that can edit memory. Dealer can do the ecu dump for the key ID. This is most likely not a viable solution. You’ll need to call around your area to find a locksmith with the tool to edit the memory.
