Hi!

my girlfriend hit her passenger side mirror on a pole while reversing, so now it swivels very freely and will shift while driving. It's the same situation as in this video:

can anyone tell me if this is fixable, or if I need to replace with an entire new housing? the guy in the video suggests theres no fix without going into detail, but from some other research it seems like there may be a broken internal part that isnt fixable. thanks in advance.

You can disassemble the mirror assembly.

Do you know if the mirror was hit on the edge or in the middle of the mirror? The stem of the mirror isn't very strong in most mirrors.

It will be cheaper to replace it with a junkyard special. When the color is different, you can just remove the cap and use the original cap to match your color.

thanks for the response. I believe only the edge was hit, causing the housing to swivel forward but also become very loose. the mirror glass is fine and can still function with the control.

is the part I circled the damaged piece? (image taken from another thread)

also, do you happen to know if the OEM cover would fit on an aftermarket housing like this one?

Remove your mirror cap and see what was damaged. It's likely the same one as the image you posted that broke.

I don't know if there's going to be fitment issues with the aftermarket mirror. It varies from mirror to mirror manufacturer.

You should visit row52.com and locate another 10th gen Corolla in the local junkyards. You'd be able to source a used OEM mirror for the price of the aftermarket or cheaper.
