Hi everyone, my name is Jim,
i have a 2010 corolla automatic transmission, 135k, transmission fluid change at 117k. I went for a drive and couldnt get the shifter into park and then not Drive either, just reverse and neutral. The cable is fine, i disconnected it from the tranny and it woks fine. I cannot shift the tranny at the transmission lever/arm either.
just wondering if anyone had any ideas or experienced it before?
thanks Jim

Use the shift lock to see if it allows you to move into drive.

Suspect the park neutral switch. Is your check engine light on?

Scam for code.

Thank you for helping. It’s definitely not the shifter lever inside the cabin or the cable from the hand shifter to the tranny . There are no codes. I disconnected the cable/linkage at the tranny and the inside shifter works fine in all positions. The little arm in front of the tranny will only move slightly from neutral to reverse
How does the cable move when disconnected from the shift linkage?

Thank you, I assume the PN switch you mean neutral safety switch?
Yes that is the part. But if the shifter linkage is not moving past neutral, then you need to investigate that more.

According to this https://www.justanswer.com/transmis...orolla-automatic-transmission-stuck-park.html the op had similar issue. Stuck in park. Found the valve body has the shaft that connects the shifter cable to be bent.

Looked at a few images on google, but I don’t see where the shaft is for the cable to attach to.

Thanks AJ for your help. I was told my issue is a mechanical one. The shifter between the seats works fine when disconnected from tranny. The arm/rod at the tranny will only go into neutral or reverse. But I will check the fuses like that video said. Thank you

Hi All,
So I got the car back from Hi-tech transmission in East Long Ma it was the valve body with a frozen shifter. They brought it to me and it wouldn’t move . There was several pieces of metal on the magnet in the pan and one of the gears is on it way out . So it’s going to the auction. They fixed it with a used valve body for a total of $857 . Not worth replacing the tranny.
Thank you all for your help
Merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah
