I just did my annual wax job on my cars and noticed that there were surface rust spots on the hood, roof and trunk (the flat surfaces). Using brake cleaner and liquid wax, I was able to remove most of it. It doesn't seem to be related to obvious chips in the paint. Apparently brake dust can cause surface rust so I guess that is a possibility. There isn't any bubbling of the paint. so it seems to be strictly on the surface. I have two other Camrys: a 2000 and a 2006 (Solara). The paint on both of those cars seems to be thicker and tougher than the paint on the Hybrid. I haven't seen a similar rust problem on either one.

At present this is a minor issue and I'm hoping that it stays that way. Overall, the car is very reliable and I'm quite happy with it (and my other Camrys).

Anyone else seeing a similar rust problem with 2010 or newer Camrys?

I'm just north of Toronto.

I thought of it at the time but I was too busy just getting it done so I didn't take any pics. They looked like faint brown stains on the paint. They were shaped like concentric rings around a central spot (but more oblong than round).

Lemme guess. Ain't no rust.
For starters, rust can not be removed with brake cleaner and wax.
2ndly, I seen many of those "concentric spots around center" on my cars. It's sap. Where it comes from, I donno, but it's sap. Looks absolutely like what you describe and removes with yes, some solvents.
Also, think logically. Hood? Up there. Brakes? Down there. Dust from brakes flying magically up onto the hood to cause rust? Really?
I also have ton of hood front paint chips. NONE of them rusts.

Hadn't thought of that but it does make some sense since we do have trees around. I have two cars in the driveway and the other one doesn't show any signs of it but I agree that's probably what it is.
