Hello, everyone. I have a 2013 Highlander Limited (62000~ miles) that failed to start the other day. Had it jump started and the folks at Autozone (and Oreilly) said the voltage regulator was bad as well as the battery - evidently since the the battery has been overcharging due to voltage regulator being inop (?). Curious to know if anyone has had alternator issues with there Highlander? Seems like a premature failure for an alternator, especially on a Toyota! Appreciate any insight.

I would say that's extremely premature. Couple guys have replaced theirs but IIRC it was well over 150k as far as mileage. Hell I'm at 107k and my original battery (2008) still tests well.

Nothing special, figure around a hundred bux for an interstate. I'm sure you can spend less and most certainly much more for a better battery.

Eric,

I meant the alternator. I'm curious comparing to local garage replacing to dealership replacing. And no, so far mine is OK.

You can get a reman Denso 150A unit for fairly cheap on rockauto (~$200? It's been awhile). MSRP for OEM new (Denso 150A for tow package models) is around 600; however you can find them cheaper. I think I paid ~$400 at a local garage (not dealer, they were $700+) for a reman unit installed.

The alternator in my 2GR-FE engine made it to 200K before it died. Pulled it out; had it rebuilt at a local electrical rebuilder shop. Coming up on a yr. since I had that done.
