Well...we have the van since Jan 2016 and now with 41K miles on the engine.
Around 30k miles, service manager told me there seems to be a little leak around the engine but not too bad.
Last week during oil changes, he told me more leak and steering column is leaking as well. After a day of checking, he told me the oil is leaking near the cover and timing belt area... oil dripped to the steering column...(steering column rack is ok)
Toyota warranty is taking care of the repair and it will be a few days work. Right now I am driving a Camry loaner. As long as it's under warranty, I am good with that. I am just surprised to see this issue "again" on newer Toyota.
A while back on our 2005 Avalon, right around 120K miles, oil was leaking around the cover/timing area as well. I didn't fix it and the car was totaled due to an accident.
After searching for Toyota oil leak, I see some people with 3.5 V6 have seen this oil leak. I am talking about people with 2015 highlander, Camry... I think the root cause is a bad gasket for the 3.5 V6. I suggest you all keep an eye on your vans. Looking back, my 04, 05 sienna and 07 highlander with 3.3 actually had no oil leak issue. At the same time, 05, 06 Avalon, 07 Sienna and this 15 Sienna, 2 out of 4 have the issue, the failure rate is little too high in my case...
