Help! I have a 2017 Sienna XLE AWD and I am about to lose my mind. One of the sliding doors has been creaking since I purchased the vehicle and the dealer is unable up resolve the problem. The noise sounds like metal flexing. The service techs have tightened this and that, greased this and that and no sooner than I pick up the car from service the noise starts again. 4 visits and no fix. Today I picked up the van after being "fixed" and had to turn right back to the service. The noise is unbearable. My kids have to wear earphones in order to drown out the noise.
Anyone else experiencing this dull metallic clanking sound?

Have you tried taking it to a different dealer? If it is that big of a problem- drop it off again and insist that they give you rental van. Don't return that rental van until you know for a fact that the van is fixed. You could also try calling Toyota Corporate to make a complaint.

Another dealer is the next step. I have a loaner now which is fine for the time being. As of yesterday the dealer is keeping the van and having multiple techs drive it to diagnose the problem. There is zero communication from the shop unless I hound them to get an update.

My 2017 Sienna drivers side sliding door makes a creaking sound every time I hit a bump or generally move! I've brought it in several times and each time it is 'fixed'. This time I am bringing it in and telling them don't give it back until it is fixed. My 5 year old sits next to it and if she falls out cuz of this issue, then there will be an issue. The sound is driving me insane to the point where I'd rather drive my son's old beat up car than this minivan.

Picked up the van from dealer. Asked what they diagnosed the noise as and they said a rattle. Wow!! Their solution was to remove the door panel and put insulation in the door. Per the service tech Toyota has a cold weather insulation kit that prevents this creaking for cars in colder weather. I live in Virginia not the artic so I am very sceptical. They assured me that the van is safe and that there is no flaw in the body structure. I obtained a copy of all of my service records just in case the noise comes back or if another door issue pops up. Two years later and this is the solution
Fingers crossed it's fixed but time will tell

Cathy it's like you are talking about my 2017 sienna. Mine is drivers side sliding door. It's like a grinding noise that apparently only family can hear because after 3 visits (including last night) they can never hear it. It's driving me crazy. Last night I said my fear is that my daughter will fall out of the car if this noise inadvertently opens. Their solution was to move her car seat to the other side!!! Here is what I think. They washed my car last night and on way home the noise was crazy loud. This morning there was frost and condensation and the noise was loud. I am almost thinking it is moisture related. What I am going to do is wait for rain and then bring it in and drive around with them. But either way it sounds like we are hearing the same noise in the our 2017 sienna's.

If you can record the noise on your phone. I did that previously and played it at the dealers after the service manager told me it sounded like plastic and I said it sounded like metal contracting. He didn't say much after that. What's irritating is that they are dismissive like you enjoy going to the dealer. I would be fuming if their solution was move the car seat. Thats no solution and certainly can't give you peace of mind

Trust me I was angry.

Trust me I am burning mad at all these trips. Let me know if their fix actually works. I plan on showing them this posting as proof they have an issue with their 2017 siennas.

That sucks! I still think it is moister related. I am waiting for it to rain to test my theory. I don't hear it when the sun is beating on my car but I do hear it in the morning a bit after a frost. And I heard it a lot after they washed my car last time it went in. See if that makes sense for you.

My 2016 sliding doors started making creaking noises about six months after I bought it new. Seems to be worst now after they did the sliding door recall work. I have taken it to the dealer when it was under warranty and was basically told that they all rattle and there's nothing that can be done. Pretty disappointed and will likely mean my next van will not be a Toyota.

I emailed Toyota corporate about it and they called me back. They were great on the phone and they spoke directed with the dealership. I am to bring it in again today (of course it won't make a sound I bet) and they are to work on it with the Toyota Engineers I believe. Hoping for the best on it. Will update with the results.

FYI after doing more research I found this site where it shows there are many more of us out there. One person even equated it to moisture just like I thought. Anyways what their solution was is to put lube (vasaline) around the door bump stop. Either way I am bringing it to the dealer today and will see what they say about it.
