Hi all,

Wanted to see if anyone has any rattles in their 2017 Toyota Camry? I have an XSE version and when at highway speeds I am hearing a rattle which to me seems to be coming from the rear of the vehicle. Not sure I can currently isolate where. Driving me crazy. It is only at highway speeds and mainly over 60mph. I guess I can go to the dealer and play the back and forth game until they do something. Just curious to see if anyone has noticed the same rattle in their car.

Thanks,

Tom

I haven't had any rattling noise other than a creaking/banging noise when the chassis flexes over uneven surfaces.

That was taken care of through warranty by the dealer, supposedly it's a known issue since 2012 models and Toyota didn't bother fixing the issue even after that.

I have 2 rattling noises on my XSE one on the both the front a-pillars that was a easy fix I just inserted a piece of foam tape between the panel and other one on the rear of the car. Mines on the rear of the car is coming from the right rear seatbelt it rattles a little on harsh roads. Your it could be either the right or left seat belt. If you pull the seal belt you'll hear the little rattling sound. I didn't get mines fixed bc I don't want the dealership to tear up my rear panels maybe when it comes closer to the warranty deadline I might consider it, but it doesn't bother me too much

I have a 2014 SE and theres been a rattle toward my dashboard area and I've been going back and fourth to the dealer (an hour drive each way) to get this problem resolved. It's a hassle for me to go back hence i live about 50 miles from the dealership.

The first time i took my car in they couldnt replicate the rattle, 2nd time i took it in they said they fixed it and filled up the A-piller and tightened something under the seat and my gas pedal. In hopes they fixed it after the 2nd trip, NOPE! I still hear rattles, even worst now. Taking it back into the dealer tomorrow so they can do another test drive.

ANNOYED TO THE MAX!!!

Update - took my car in about a week ago - they have it for about 3 hours and put 20 miles on it. Said had someone ride in trunk - heard it - put some padding around wheel well, tightened some things in trunk. Guess what - rattle still there again at highway speeds. Seems to be little less but still there. Going to take it back in next week. Ugh!!!

I took my car in last week and they kept it again overnight. My rattle is still there at this point Im not sure if it's still worth going back. I went back 3x already and problem isn't fixed. Technician said toyotas have problem with rattles from the plastic pillars. Have to make time going back to dealer. Such a hassle!

I know that my rear shelf is making a light buzzing and rattling noise sometimes and my rear bumper sides are flapping on highway time to time. I put a bag of rice wrapped in a towel (it looks like a pillow) on the shelf to keep it under tension all the time, but I have no idea how to fix flapping bumper sides.

Ours was a '12; there was a really annoying squeak at 70-75 on the highway from the pillar area. They tightened some dashboard screws from the firewall side and wedged some foam down in there around the pillar and it was silent after that.

derman80 - I really think that is where my rattle is coming from - the flapping rear bumpers. Not sure what they can do with that except putting some foam around there maybe but that may push the rear side bumper past the seams. Frustrating. Kind of weird I favored my 2012 over the 2017.

Thanks Molson - only problem I have from reading the thread you attached is that the 2017 I have has the side sensors that are mentioned. So I would feel really nervous about doing your fix for this on my car with those sensors. Especially when the car is under warranty. It's a damn shame that Toyota probably knows about this problem and doesn't address it. I will mention this when I return next week.

Do you know if the sensors mounted directly on the bumper or body, under the bumper?
I go on interstate HWY more and more often lately and all 2012+ Camry doing 70+ I saw on HWY ware flapping.
I don't know if the flapping is related to the rattling you hear (I think I wasn't hearing anything), but that fix definitely stops the flapping- tested at (censored) MPH. :)

I had this same issue with my 16 SE. Would only rattle starting around 60+. The noise was definitely from the rear of the car but it was hard to diagnose. I found a youtube video of a guy showing the exact same rattle I was having. Took it to the dealership the first time, of course they couldn't hear it. But it was also warmer then and it wouldn't do it consistently.

Once it got colder it started doing it every time I drove, and the second time I took it back they could definitely hear it but they had a hard time diagnosing where it was coming from too. I pointed out to them how loose the right rear fender skirt seemed to be and showed them how easily it would move with just the press of my fingers. They agreed that the noise was coming from this area. They installed some foam sound dampening material. I got the car on the highway and started driving home. Didn't hear much of anything when I was on the east/west highway, but as soon as I started driving on the southbound highway it started rattling like crazy again. So took it back for the third time. This time they said they would get Toyota engineering on the phone. They gave me a loaner car. Had the loaner car for only a few hours when they called and said my car was ready and the issue was fixed. They said it turns out that the rattling was actually from the clips that hold the right rear fender skirt in place. That it appears the wrong sized clips were put in at the factory. They put in the appropriate sized clips and test drove the car for 50 miles and could hear no rattle. So far a week later, so far so good.....seems the problem is fixed.

Hey just out of curiosity did that noise you heard before repairing, was it coming from the trunk or possibly even the sound of a bad shock/strut? I get a noise too on an uneven surface whether in drive or reversing but according to the dealer the struts are fine. What was repaired also if I may know?

It was a popping sound above the A pillar on the passenger side.

Will Toyota give you the correct size now according to your VIN or is there a particular part number needed?? I'm having the same issue in my 2017 camry xle.
