I watched this great Youtube video on how to hardwire a radar detector on a 2016 Lexus ES350 but couldn't follow the wiring because my barebone LE doesn't have a powered rearview mirror. BUT it does come with a Camera Sensor (part of the Toyota Safety Sense on 2018 models) where there's a 12V "switched" power source. The power comes on only in IGNITION ON mode and not in ACCESSORY mode. Perfect!

Nothing like some pics, right? :)

Do you notice any degradation in signal detection from up there?

I read it should be as low as possible to potentially pick up laser (even then it would be too late)

I have the same exact detector.

Not sure how to test for best location for detector:| Basically I'm just going for the stealthiest location. Fact tho, this high mounting location has detected multiple laser hits with two cars in front of me. I think this high location catches the laser traveling through the windshields and rear windows of the cars ahead. Then again, this still could be the case with the detector mounted low...not sure.

Like you said, even the perfect mounting location will still be too late to react to a laser hit. This is why I drive at speed limit if i'm the first car 0:)

Also I set the radar sensitivity to Highway (max) to increase the chance of detecting leaky radar guns. Many times even if only a laser gun is used, a radar gun is there too in the patrol car/bike that's always on, leaking out its radar signature, and giving away its position

Mounting High has the best performance for radar detection, however it diminishes laser detection. BUT BUT BUT, if you were to mount low and get tagged by laser it would be too late for slowing down anyways since the officer would have your speed in milliseconds. all it is a warning to pull over LOL. I would recommend laser jammers, if they are not illegal in your state.

I installed mine today too. Don't have any fancy pictures, but your pictures helped out a lot.

Thanks WY6!

Great info! I'm so tired of suction cups that I have visor mounts for my dashcam and detector. Only problem is those wires and trying to figure out how to hide them. I run a Whistler CR90 and a Garmin Dashcam 20. Is removal of the cover like the Lexus? Did you have to make any cutout to run the wire out of the cover? Is there any room to install a flush connector to plug wires or a connector into?

Thank You

This worked very well for me in my 2018 Toyota Camry XSE V6. I was able to hook up my Escort 9500 using the windshield suction cups and tapping into the mirror fuse as seen in the pictures and video above. It's so much cleaner than having the power cord running down from my windshield to the power charger adapter. Thanks so much for the clear instructions!!!

the removal of the cover is exactly like the lexus, i even bought the trim removal tools, turns out you don't need them. just your fingers. there's enough room to slide the cable through. there's a lot of room inside that little cover, but like i said there's more than enough space to run the cable through.

There are many ways to eliminate someone discovering your radar detector.

Some are much stealthier than others.

After years of study on this, I have came up with the ultimate way to keep someone
from discovering your radar detector.

I'd kinda' like to keep it a secret. But if enough people ask, I will share it.

I have 2018 xSe v6.... can’t figure out how to remove the cover. Don’t want to break it. Looks like there is the big cover and maybe a smaller one....not sure how or which one to try to remove. Does the cover snap on?

Just slide the whole thing down. It comes loose. Then the part on top comes off of the bigger piece. Just take your fingers and squeeze 2 side tabs on the smaller piece.

I want to run hardwire for dash cam down to fuse box. Anyone have diagram for 2018 camry box under instrument panel. I have a circuit tester but would like to know which is for what. The mirror wires are too thin to mess with(regular mirror for me with no power, but I have the other plug for the radar thing)

Thanks!

Thank You! Installation was a breeze in my 2018 Camry XSE with these instructions. I installed a tap then connected it to my blend mount installed detector. Everything is clean and nicely hidden in a parking lot. The photos were awesome too!
