Hello,
Was wondering if I can get some help or if anyone knows of a TSB for a vibration/humming noise when vehicle is in motion, but going slow. Specifics are 1500-1900 rpm, automatic trans is probably in 3rd gear, almost in between gears where it could probably stay in lower gear and work fine. Smooth road, no bumps. This combination with lower rpm's and a higher gear causes a vibration like it's a hose or plastic rattle on the chassis. The slightest push on the gas lightly will either make it come or go with the sound. It's driving me nuts. I took the black plastic covers off on the bottom of undercarriage exposing the many lines that are covered by them, put foam in areas that may rattle, and did the same with the covers when reinstalling as some are not complete pieces. I know there is a TSB for the one line that runs along top of fuel tank that can rattle and maybe that's it, but that's usually when sitting still and a full tank of gas that produces a slight thumping sound like it's the fuel pump almost going bad again right around the driver side passenger side rear seat. Anyway, this could be anything but it's happening and I can mostly reproduce it when vehicle is cold or warm and temperatures outside are anywhere from 30-70 degrees. I have 37,500 miles and I'd say this started around 33,000 or so.
So as an example. I dealt with something similar with my wife's Outback. It was a grounding wire that was slightly moved and vibrating on the airbox in engine and bolted to the firewall. For the life of me it sounded like the dash was vibrating. Took me 2 years to figure it out, but with the help of the Outback forum I was able to narrow it down before tearing out other things. It's not that easy to look around this compact v6 engine on the Highlander though.
I'm hoping I can find someone with the same issue on their Highlander and get a handle on this.
Thank you.
Rick
