Hi, I just bought a 2019 Rav4 Limited. I love it except a little noisy inside cabin/engine noise/and passenger side front seat height cannot be adjusted. Beware, if you are tall, the passenger side front seat could be felt like a little cramped.

By the way, I felt the driver side mirror is somewhat curved or concaved, not a plain/flat mirror. Looking at the mirror closely, It looks like a plain mirror but when I am sitting at the driver seat, I see somewhat curved image toward the edge. I used to drive Rav4 2011 so noticed the difference immediately. I felt the image on the mirror is slightly distorted and I could not focus well on images on the mirror. The right side mirror is fine.

Is this normal?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Yup got the same curve on side mirror. Notice it's on the ends. Also are you experiencing a transmission downshift when coming to a stop. Sort of like a pull.

Exactly, the curve towards the ends as if images are being sucked into a black hole (a little exaggeration,). It's very subtle but I think each eye is seeing different sizes of same images because of that then that makes me feel like I can't focus. So, Toyota made it intentionally? I will and see if the issue is wide spread. Maybe it is a manufacturing defect like tightening the mirror assembly too tight?

Anyway, I have driven the car only for a couple of hours but now that you mention it, I think I kind of feel that too as if it is on sports mode or as if I am driving a truck. As soon as you lift your foot from the accelerator, it slows down. But, it does not bother me.

I will update a couple of days later how I feel when I drive. I have a 2014 Camry and the transmission seems to slip a lot but Toyota says it's normal. I am glad the transmission is not like Camry.

[Edit] Mine is built in Japan. VIN starts with J

I've never noticed it before, so I made a point to check it today, my mirror looks perfectly normal, so they don't all have the issue, or my 72yr old eyes are just bad! :frown: Can't say the same for the digital rear view mirror tho, that thing takes some getting used to with old eyes and progressive lenses. :dunno:

I think I know what you mean. Mine does that too. I do feel downshift or pull when my foot is off the accelerator. It's not smooth, it's a little jerky. It happens once in a while, not every time.

When you hit gas, sometimes engine revs up but it takes 1 or 2 seconds to actually change gear and speed up. My Camry also takes 1 or 2 seconds when I floor the accelerator before its gear changes and speeds up but no downshift/pull has been experienced.

[Update for the side mirror]

I took it to a Toyota dealer and they, as expected, don't see the issue. However, I was lucky to catch a Toyota rep (but not an engineer) and he said he would replace it free of charge as a loyal customer courtesy. I said that I owned and drove 3 Toyota vehicles and I knew that mirror is abnormal. I think the mirror is approx $140.

I will update next week if a replacement mirror fixes the issue.

Just replaced the mirror, same distortion. My guess is the side mirror housing/assembly are the issue.

The dealership really should be willing to make it right. I just traded in an '18 on a '19. :surprise:
It has the problem that you are talking about with the mirror. Makes me feel cross eyed at times.

I have my rav in for them to track down a bad smell, and I mentioned it to the guy that took my car. I told him that he could easily see the distortion that I was talking about by looking at an object in the center of the mirror, then moving his head from one side to the other and watch the distortion of the object. He said "all mirrors do that" since they magnify. No, I told him, they don't. In fact, the new adventure rental they put me in does not have that problem.

They replaced my mirror and the replacement mirror is better, but still has some distortion. I will be having it looked at by a specialist from Toyota. Along with several other issues.

Tech Package Causing Distortion??

I noticed the mirror distortion immediately when I was test driving the Rav4 XLE Premium. The salesman claimed he didn't see what I saw but I made him bring in another guy to look and he saw the distortion. Then we looked at a bunch of different models and saw the distortion in the Premium models but not the XLE. So they promised to replace the mirror when they were able to find one with the color/upgrade options I wanted. They haven't been able to locate one in the Blueprint color so I settled for black. Today they are saying that the distortion from the mirror is caused by one of the features in the Technology Package upgrade. I went ballistic since it's crazy that an added feature that's supposed to increase the safety of the vehicle has rendered useless one of the most basic and necessary safety functions of every car since the first car was invented!! Trying to find out if this is actually caused by one of the features in the Premium Grade Technology Package. Anybody who's seen the distortion...did you upgrade your tech package???

I have the Premium grade tech package on my XLE Premium, there is a very slight distortion on the very far left outside edge of the driver's mirror, the only way I can see it is to stare at an object's reflection and move my point of view a little, otherwise I never notice it, I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't been looking for it, it's so slight.

Distortion is a feature? That's a lame excuse. I think it's defect of the side mirror housing. I hope more people find this thread and leave comments so that we can address to Toyota.

By the way, I have a blind spot indicator in the mirror.

So the dealer was blaming the problem on a 360 Birds Eye View camera feature. I didn't remember hearing about that feature so I looked it up and it's only available on the Limited model so he was talking out his ass. I called him out on it and he admitted his mistake. I'm going to see if I see the distortion on the another XLE Premium they have on the lot because they've now said that they are not going to replace the mirror should I see the distortion on the vehicle that they bring in for me from another dealer. Right about now I'm definitely not feeling so great about buying this new Rav.

The dealers apparently say whatever sounds good to them that causes them the least amount of grief. It's insulting actually. I've had several issues that they've been trying to brush off. I too had pretty bad driver's mirror distortion. They did replace that, but the replacement still isn't quite right. It's not that bad though. Even though you can see images distort slightly as you shift your head, they don't see a problem. So I am biding my time on yet another replacement.
BTW, I have an LE with BSM and heated mirrors.

Looks like the mirror has a panoramic function which makes a driver side view a little wider than a plain, non-distorted mirror.

My 2012 CR-V EX has exactly same view and it is helps to some degree. Some paranoiac CRV owners think that is a defective parts where it is not. It is designed that way.

Some Rav4s' mirrors are fine and plain so I don't think intentional panoramic view side mirror theory will work.

Those who are experiencing the mirror issue, go to dealers. I just spoke to a toyota service adviser, he said he fixed few mirrors and now covered under the warranty and toyota is aware of the issue.
