Has anyone else experienced a dash rattle? Typically only hear it on rougher roads. Sounds like it's coming from the middle of the dash in the area behind the radio. Can also hear it if I knock on it. Took to dealer, but of course couldn't reproduce the noise at that time. The tech said it's probably the plastic contracting with the change in weather and leaving more room for the parts to move and make noise. Let me know if you've experienced this and found a fix!! Thank you!

All three Highlanders I've had had the same rattle. It's definitely caused by plastic components contracting in cooler temperatures. Depending on specifically where it is I've had success with jamming something soft and pliable between the dash and windshield.

Yep. Just starting getting this a couple of weeks ago. Exactly as you describe. There's a panel above and behind the display that can be popped out. I intend to pop that out and investigate.

I've had a couple Camrys and a Highlander that developed a rattle/popping noise at the base of the windshield when the daily temperature starts dropping in the fall. After you run the heater/defroster for 20 minutes or so it usually subsides.

I bought some craft felt cloth (black or brown, whatever matches the dash) and a narrow nylon or flexible plastic putty knife. Cut a few strips of felt about 1 inch by 2 inches. Fold one of the strips around the end of the putty knife and push the felt between the windshield and the dash. If it won't go, move over a couple inches. When you pull the putty knife out the felt stays put. Do this in four or five places to act as kind of a cushioned wedge. This is probably easier to do when it's still reasonably warm out so the interior plastics still have some give.

Worked for me. As always, your mileage may vary . . .

We just noticed a rattle in the middle of the dash also. SUPER annoying in an otherwise quiet car. Smooth road, no noise. A little rough and it drones on and on. I am well out of the two year warranty. I wonder if my extended warranty covers it???? It is THAT bad to me!

Could certainly be in your case, but mine is def the dash. I can localise it by hitting the dash with my hand between the display and windshield. It doesn't take much force at all and hitting elsewhere doesn't elicit it. I clan clearly hear where it's coming from.

I have a rattle in a similar area, but mine seems to the the plastic trim around and behind the 12" display. It's not in the dash closer to the windshield. Mine is definitely due to cold; it's not present until it's maybe 20*F or colder outside. For as often as that happens (not very), I'm not worried about it. Every car I've ever had has a dash rattle somewhere in the cold. As the dealer said, it's plastic parts contracting and then being able to move around just enough to make noise.

Every vehicle I've owned in my life has had a rattle or two due to wide ranging temperatures and disimilar materials. Only happens in very cold temps for me.

Thanks! I just find it insane that I paid $57000 for a brand new car and in 3 weeks it rattles and I have to shove crap in the dash. I'll try felt or something I guess, seriously want to return the damn thing.

I hope your dealership is more helpful than mine. They took the dash apart and insulated it. Didn’t help at all. Said they have no other suggestions.
Mine goes in Saturday. It seems to be an intermittant rattle, so I think the temperature thing does have something to do with it. I am going to try the suggested tricks, but I think it is ridiculous that a brand new car has ANY rattle at all.
