Hey i have a 93 toyota ext cab v6 3.0 auto pickup and right now im looking at another yota this one is a 92 ext cab 22re 5 speed both are projects and ive owned a 92 reg cab 22re 5 speed and i was just trying to gather oppinions about both. Now i like to have some power witch is not the 22re's strenght but i know reliability and gas mpg is. So can anyone give me over veiws on both of them pros and cons so i can make up my mind on witch one i want to fix up. And if i buy the 22re i was thinking of swaping the rear endout since the v6 is a 4 pinion 4.88 gear ratio and 8 inch rear and unsure of the other but i kno its a 3 pinion and probly not 4.88 gears and i will be running 31 all terrains. Thanks guys any opinion is apreciated

I only have a 22RE automatic xtracab 2wd, so my mpg's should differ greatly from what you will see.

Reliability is great, i'm sure you know how 22RE's feel and everything. as far as i know, the V6's aren't powerhorses. 22RE's will help majorly in the long run. most of us would recommend to get the V6 ext cab (if it is in better shape than the other truck in overall) and swap teh motor.

I think it would be neat to get either truck. Both are extra cabs, which are the beautiful side of the pickups. you should go test drive both trucks and see how they feel

Okay well first of all, there's no such thing as a "3 pinion" rear end. Only 2 or 4. So how do you know it's 4.88"? It just seems like you're making a guess here...

If you could tell us the miles and compression readings for both motors, that would help. Are both frames in equally good shape?

ALright i dint take a guess on the rear end i used a site to decode the numbers on my vin plate in the door jam witch in return told me i have an 8 inch rear with 4.556 gears and a 4 pinion open diff. i said i had 4.88's i dont i forgot thats wut was recomended for 31's and as far as the 3 and 4 its only the fins ur right i made a mistake so tahnks for pointing it out but yes the only thing i kno about the 22re is its a 2 pinion and i doubt it has 4.556 gears i already own the v6 and the frame is near perfect on both of them the v6 had sat in somones yards for 6 months after they stoped driven it but its only got some surface rust on teh rear end where the 22re has been sitting on tar and has nothing under it so they dont really hurt eachother so much there but the v6 needs a timing belt kit so i havnt wanted to really come down on it to see how much power it has i was just wondering if any one really cared for the power of the 3.0 they both run extreamly smooth so idk its hard for me to pick. And as far as the millege the v6 has 208k and the 22re has 216k the v6 needs rocker panels and cab corners badly a windsheild and timing belt kit powersteering pump and exausht work to pass for a sticker in maine the 22re needs 2 braklines and a drivers side window witch i could take from the v6 and ya pretty much haha well thanks let me know i apreciate it

well my opinion is that there is a big power difference between the 3.0 and 22re. i own a 92 xtra cab v6 and my friend has a 86 4runner 22re and we live in the mountains in northern idaho driving up and down mountain roads all day and the v6 just gives that xtra kick compared to the 22re. dont get me wrong the 22re is a good motor but i like my v6, and so does my friend. and with the v6 it makes it hella easier to do the swap to the 3.4 taco motor. i mean that at that point alll it is is pull the 3.0, swap some crap over to the 3.4 and prop it in, bolts right up.wiring and exhaust are the only big things at that point.

Could you rewrite this in English please. If you believe it is in English, then go back to the 3rd grade and learn to spell. Also, for all that is holy, get a clue on sentence/paragraph structure. If your post is hard to read, and this is, few people will want to muddle through it to try to decipher what you tried to write.

Cheers,

I have a 3.0 with 31's and it works fine for me. The 3.0 makes more power than the 22re in both HP and torque.

Cheers,

if you want respect, show respect.

if you want a legible answer, ask a legible question.

Nothing like a good old fashioned cellphone to teach good grammar and spelling. Oh, wait, that fad is mostly followed by melon-headed teens to think they are too smart to pay attention in class and use "Like" at least twice in every sentence.

Personally, I blame the schools. Once they pulled Phonics out of the system and stopped actually holding students accountable for their success or failure, our country's written IQ plummeted to an all-time low. Not to mention the fact that it is no longer acceptable to fail a student who is a failure... So much for higher thinking...

V6 vs. 4 will come down to what you want. You're not talking about new vs. new; these are both used engines with different mileages and different maintenance histories. The 4 could go belly-up tommorrow and the 6 could last forever. The common themes are that the 4 is a relatively fuel efficient, durable and forgiving engine. The 6 has more power, less fuel economy and can have head gasket problems, tho by no means is that an assurance that it will. Come up with your own list of relavant pros and cons and there you go.
