So keep the 1zz harness and then make adapters the ECU?
So keep the 1zz harness and then make adapters the ECU?Hey, I've done that exact swap. A 03 Matrix ECU or 00-01 Celica ECU will be better. For wiring, don't bother swapping out the harness. It's best to leave it completely stock and build an adapter. I have all the wiring diagrams you need. I have been working on a full DIY guide on the entire swap, I'll polish it off and post it soon.
So my dad thinks that wiring the ECU like that is a terrible idea is there any particular reason not to use the 2z engine harness? That way it all plugs into the engine and ecu no extra wires or anything? I’d rather keep the 1z harness that way the car functions the same and I don’t have to make a hybrid harnessHey, I've done that exact swap. A 03 Matrix ECU or 00-01 Celica ECU will be better. New to the site and am struggling to find where I can pm you lolUsing the 2zz harness, you would have to adapt a whole bunch of plugs to get the engine harness to communicate with the body harness. You would also have to construct your own fuse and relay panel or do a ton of custom wiring to get it functional with the Prizm fuse box.
If you leave the 1zz wiring harness in place, you only have to adapt 4 plugs to connect the 2zz ECU to the existing harness. The existing 1zz wiring harness plugs into the 2zz engine itself just fine, almost every single plug is the same between the engines. If you want to avoid wiring all together, there's a company called Panic Made that sells the ECU and harness adapter for $1,400. If you PM me, I might be able to make the adapter you need for a lot less than that.
He’s probably going to end up helping me solder because I’ve never done it ,actually I’ve never done any of this , I did the clutch a few months ago so that’s where I’m at for experience LOL, BUT on a happier noteWhy not have your dad help wire it up then?
Soooo the 2z that I got , doesn’t have a power steering pump on it so I guess I’m adding that to the list , and yeah I’m hoping to keep my A/C I had my fingers crossed the compressor was just gonna bolt on to the new engine , I’m trying to not crack a line but we shall seeOnce you get the 1zz out, and the 2zz in, you can lay the wiring harness on top of the engine in roughly the right spot, and everything will line up just fine. It doesn't look like it will, but it does. When you get to the point where you need to put the vacuum lines on, I'll send you detailed pictures of my setup.
One thing you have to piece together is the power steering pump. For that, set the 1zz and 2zz PS pumps next to each other on a workbench and look at the fittings. Theres a big bolt on both pumps and if you unbolt both, the fittings for each pump will come off and you'll be able to put the 1zz power steering pump fitting on the 2zz pump. That way you'll be able to retain all the power steering stuff without any custom hoses.
What's your AC setup like? Do you plan on keeping the AC?
I really did not want to do that because I didn’t want to pull my CVs and 3 other mounts sighIMO it's best to pull the engine and transmission together, then pull the bell housing bolts once the engine is out of the engine bay.
Okay so comparing my diagrams you gave me between the corolla and matrix ECM , I’ve got four OBD pinsIirc, you have to run them straight to the OBD port, but they're not 100% necessary to run the car.
What are the extra Matrix wires called? And did I send you the OBD diagram? If I didn't, I'll send it over.
OH and I need the obd wires , I’m getting an engine light which is expected because the down stream O2 sensor is just dangling but I want to double check itOKAY so turns out the idling problem was a ground LOLOL CHECK YOUR GROUNDS PEOPLE but now all that’s left is too relocate my battery (any advice on that is appreciated) and I need an exhaust from the down pipe down
