I just dropped my speed 3 engine. It was daunting at first. Then just said F it. Pulled axles and lca’s. Fortunately for me, I’m able to dismantle my front end. Wish the corolla was the same. They have the traditional rad support made in metal.

Good luck though.

Okay the next piece in my lovely swap puzzle (besides the elbow grease of swapping engines, which btw the 1z is out so first ever engine removal is a success and I didn’t break Jack !$&@) IS to get male ECU plugs , i don’t recall if I had shared that I got an ECU , but it’s a 03 matrix 89661-01040 , ANYWAY will any plugs from any M/T matrix ecu work? Or do they HAVE to be from an XRS because if I can go to a junk yard and pull some plugs from a soccer mom mobile then awesome! Just wondering thanks

Male plugs from an 03-04 Matrix XRS are ideal, but plugs from an 03-04 Matrix 1zz (auto or manual, doesn't matter) will work too with a tiny bit of repining.

Good job getting everything out without breaking anything. That's a feat on a car this old.

Okay so it’s been a while here a little bit of an update.
Come to find out , my 1z flywheel doesn’t fit on the 2z so cool
Parts on the way
2zz flywheel
2z power steering pump
Once those get here I can start putting the engine in the car UNLESS there’s something else I need to get , I’ve seen something about an engine mount bracket?
anyways today I got male plugs for the matrix ecu , BUT they’re from a base vibe manual , I was in kind of a hurry so just unplugged them and cut the plugs with about an inch of wire so I’m not sure if the type of ECU they came from mattered but they fit my ecu so idrc. Now that I’m ready to pull the prizm ecu out and start working on soldering n such I gave the prizm ecu location a quick Google search :| ifykyk so I have that to work on that’s about it for now let me know if I’m missing anything thank you for everyone’s help and input so far!

Okay a little bit of an update
The engine is in the car and it has been in the car for a while now, I’ve only got a few things left to do
Hook up power steering hoses to the pump (old pump is still dangling in the bay LOL)

Finish my ECU adapter , they make heat shrink solder joints so I’m using those I just got new plugs with MUCH longer pigtails today

Custom exhaust header ( more in this in a sec)

I having troubles with my passenger side mount, the prizm bridge doesn’t fit and the matrix bridge is too short , solution is to cut one stud off the prizm bridge, and re-weld it closer to the other stud , similar to the matrix bridge width I think I know someone who can do this

But for my exhaust , I think I’m gonna go with SC Chinchillas idea , mrS header , with a custom 2-1 down pipe or whatever it’s called, BUT that’s super restrictive isn’t it? Or was it just the stock 1zz mid pipe that was restrictive, I’m gonna take my cat out too so that might help? Opinions are appreciated

I have to put my intake back in but before that I have to put my new slave cylinder in because i broke my old one smh
After all that it’s just small stuff and working out any kinks I run into OH and I have to run those jumper wires for Lift and the pressure sensors too

Yep, a hood exit is going to be incredibly loud and impractical. It's going to let water in and kill your engine quicker. You would also need a standalone ECM to handle running without an oxygen sensor or to correct for how the readings will be thrown off by having such a short exhaust. IMO it's not worth it.

I would just add a turbo kit instead of the 2zz or buy a celica gts, matrix xrs, corolla xrs or Pontiac vibe. That’s my honest opinion.

As for a hood dump, it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. Just do a fender exit. You’ll melt less stuff than the hood exit. Unless you’re making turbo noises, don’t bother.

I think he's already got the 2zz bolted in the chassis lol it's too late to go back.

As for cost of 2zz swap vs just buying a 2zz car, the used car market has been insane lately, that coupled with the increasing number of 2zz swaps and people with experience doing the swap, it's easier and cheaper than ever to just 2zz swap what you have. Just my 2 cents.

I get it. But then again, 2zz blocks have gone up in price for some reason.
