I'm am putting a new head gasket on my 92 tercel. I bought a head gasket kit and noticed that the thick rubber gromet seals that go around the tip of the injectors where they go in the head ports are not included. Does anyone know if I need to replace them or if they are good forever?? Cant find them at any parts store and dont want to get them from the dealer because the OEM head gasket and head bolt kit set me back over $100, so I could assume the seals would be pricey too!! I have the injector o-rings.

No they don't last forever. In fact, I am surprised that they lasted this long. Whatever you do, DON'T REUSE THEM.

In addition to the o rings and insulators, you should replace the grommets. All three rubber pieces should be replaced. The insulators will be twice the size of the new ones because the fuel makes them swell.

This is not intended to be a sales pitch but FYI; The insulator and grommets are $3.29 each MSRP and I sell to TN Members for 30% off MSRP plus acutal shipping and $1.00 - $2.00 for materials etc. So right at about 20.00 plus shipping.

EVen if you don't buy form me, we are only talking about less than $30.00. If you don't go new, you will be setting yourself up for headaches latter.

The Part# for the insulator is 23291-41010 and the grommet is 90480-13005.

I hope this answered you question and guides you in the right direction.

I purchased FULL Gasket set from ebay, and it came with those i believe. The original one upon inspection was kinda very hard and not rubbery at all, It would have been hard to remove the old rubber from the injector without damaging the injector seal area.

So we did NOT replace any of the 4 seals there. Actualy we did not replace any seals in the fuel delivery exept the actual fuel filter.

Cars running fine past 170k so far. I just have a horrible oil leaks and stuff everywhere. If you can get the real official part, i suggest replace it too.

Be carefull the injectors are quite expensive and fragile, especialy the tip and where the wire goes.

Make sure the seal is CLEAN and dry, u can lube it up with GASOLINE if u need.

Thanks bkftl, thats kinda what I figured. I asked the parts kid at the stealership to look them up, they had 3 of them in stock for the past 12 years. We looked at them and they were hard as a rock and not expensive at all. So I've come to conclusion that I will try to reuse the old ones because they are more like rubber and order new ones if they fail. Not hard to replace later on, heck they lasted for 152k with no problem!!

If ur not using TURBO, to pump more air into ur intake manifold, there realy isnt that much pressure there, its whatever it sucks in. So i dont think its ever gonna leak unless its damaged. And if it does it will not be noticed, untill its pissing fuel everywhere. Worst thing is you can have a loss of power while driving because injector is not shooting right, if you dont wanna replace it now its fine.

If you wanna save money, u can trade your injector CORE for a used one at a junkyard and pay them a bit. Ive seen new ones go for 90$ each, and used ones appear for 15$ with no core. U might also just need to replace one or less. Depending on where the power is lost, im not sure how to diagnose that. because its before the pisons...

Before u assemble that stuff, check the CONDUCTIVITY or w/e its called. On each injector. It should read something like 14.0 or something, if its close there all fully functional. And make sure to put a dab of electric grease onto the connections to keep moisture out.

If you get any problems i would replace the set of em though, who knows. On ebay i got a FULL Gasket set that had those stuff for around 90$ free shipping? Or something. Now i have to remove engine agian and bla bla, so if you plan to fix car ur self u can never have TOO MANY GASKETS :D and seals. The dealer one is better though or so people say... but its just very expensive.

Hope that helps.
