WHy would you want to do that? It will have less power and make your car unbearably slow. Also, it won't fit without modification.
why would i do that... well went to a japanese wholesale shop becuase my tranny is messed up. bought one from there told them what car it was going into and right as i was prepping my car i noticed on the tranny it said 3sfe on it. also when i pull my transmission out do i have to pull out my engine becuase my tranny is sitting on my frame and the only way i GUESS is to pull the engine out as well...
oh, sorry. I thought it said you were going to put a 3sfe engine in your car. The tranny should work fine. Also, you don't have to take out the engine, you can just drop the tranny. This does require you to remove the crossmember. I wish I could give you more help with that, but I have never done it myself, just seen my car as it was being worked on.

It will fit, but I don't know if it'll mount.

A 3S-FE has 3 mounts on the tranny. One on the front, one on the rear, and one on the top. 5S-FE has one mount thats on the bottom of the tranny.

I think they both use the same tranny (A140E), but theres slight differences.

Its possible just to pull the tranny, but good luck doing it.

I find that its easier to pull the engine and tranny together. Then seperate it once its out.
yea thats what i thought... hmmm so the 3sfe tranny should work fine with my 5sfe engine... i noticed the mounts are different will this cause a problem. so far i have my tranny seperated but like you said it would have been easier if i just pulled the engine out first and then seperate them. my project got rained on so i will have to continue it next weekend, i'll keep you guys posted and hopefully get some pix up of the project...

Compare both trannies and look at the holes on the bell housing, the holes on the bottom of the tranny, and the sensors.

The shifter cable on a 3S-FE attaches from the left side. Cable on a 5S-FE attaches from the top.
