im thinking about just buying a tube and intake filter to replace my stock box. i've looked at some one ebay and why does it start at where the box is at? couldn't i just start the new tube from the throttle body, add the MAF? box, and the filter? sorry, not very good with the intake system stuff lol. any help would help greatly. i know there's a k&n one but it's way out of my range. thanks!

First off, there is such a thing as a search button. Get familiar with it.

Second, Changing out your intake will yield you nothing out of your 3.0. The choke point on these engines is not the intake, it is the heads.

Moral of the story: Don't bother.

first, there are a ton of 22re intake threads. that's not what im looking for.

second, there are a ton of threads on "dont bother putting an intake" on the v6 motor.

third, im not looking for power gains or "better flows". it's simply a daily driver.

finally, im looking for help on making a custom intake. im not looking to get smart ass remarks. thanks though

ive never even seen an aftermarket intake for the v6. plus the airbox on them in so complicated with all the sensors and vaccum lines. not worth messing with it. i thought about it before but id rather leave it then mess something up and have it undrivable

Well I don't think anyone's making any smart-assed remarks here, just stating some facts.

-The 22RE wasn't mentioned by anyone in this thread.

-Other than aesthetic purposes, there is no point in an intake pipe on you V6. It does nothing except empty your wallet, unless you want it for looks. Is that your main objective?

If you're looking for performance for the 3VZE, you'll need to spend some serious money. If you're simply wanting to dress it up, maybe mention it right away to avoid unnecessary comments.

Do whats called the "ISR mod". Intake Silencer Removal modification.

I did this mod because my stock intake was cracked, and took up WAY to much room.

I removed the intake from the Afm to the TB, including the lower intake silencer.
Got a peice of 3" exhaust pipe bent to 44degrees and some rubber hose to seal it all up.

Looks much better and freed up room. didn't notice any performance gains, but that didnt bother me.

To really gain power you need to start at the AFM..

The ISR mod is good. I have the K+N FIPK kit and I noticed a little better pep and it pulled better on the highway. althou if you get the adapter fot the filter to bolt on and do the ISR mod the only thing you have to do is to support the whole thing it 2 places and ur done.

FYI these motors realy open up with headers and a cat back with a high flow cat! the headers are a real bitch to do!! but LC Engineering now makes a set, dont know how they install. but they help out a lot. I have 33x12.5 bfg ATs 4"lift and I can cherp 3rd!.

Good Luck

22re was mentioned because most of the searches came up to 22re mods. plus like i stated, im not looking for power gains. dress up? no. i just simply want to see if i could build a custom one. money is no issue and i plan on running the motor down so i can swap over the 3.4 motor. seems like it's more reliable and could make a little bit more power.

yes. i saw something like that on yotatech. i'll try that out sometime next week to see how it works.

there's a k&n intake but i dont think i want to spend 200 bucks on it:headbang:

Yeah, the K&N kit is a waste of money IMO. You can easily do the ISR mod for under $20, and if you want ( I wouldnt recomend it) get a drop in K&N filter, or get the cone filter adapter and run a K&N like that.

Either way their intake kit is WAY to much money for what you get.

I think the best reason to do the ISR mod is to clean up the engine bay, and free up some room! The added throttle response is nice :)

First off, anyone who said that doing an intake on the 3vze produces no gains, is Wrong. It produces a whopping 4.6 hp and with the maf sensor mod that we fabricated it produces 6.1 hp more, that's with stock exhaust, with my aftermarket magnaflow I think it produced more, I havnt dyno'ed my setup, this was on a friends 93 pickup mt, second, the "difficult vaccumme and sensor lines" are actually quite easy to route into one location, I'll post pictures later but all it takes is a little creative thinking and basic mechanics and you can easily do a custom setup, next we're fab'ing a shield out of a handicapsign so that way I don't suck up water again through the intake. The only parts you need are a spectre maf sensor adaptor(I'll post part# when I find it) intake tubing(I'm using 3" wafflecone tubing for now) and a cone filter, and if you 4wheel I reccomend a shield.

Sorry, I don't believe it unless you show some proof.. Like dyno numbers..
I'll ask him and see if he still has his dyno sheet or if he can just do it again, I doubt he'll be able to do it with stock/nonstock comparison but maybe he'll have some time to do that.

I like the idea of putting a cone filter on the end of the maf cus it's a little more protection from sucking up water when you get into it deep.. My 22re intake goes kinda under the headlight and if I'm in water past my bumper I'm toast (which is why I'm on 22re #2).. A cone filter is cheap insurance against that.

Plus it sounds cool.

Oh it sounds awesome, it sounds almost bigblockish, especially at wot. But as far as having MORE protection? I don't think so, I don't know about the 22r-e but the 3vze with the cone + my 32" mt's the water and mud gets kicked RIGHt into the cone, like a feed-o-matic system lol, that's why I'm wanting to custom fab a shield and heavily considering the S&b intake kit, or at least the box, it's supposed to still add the performance but provide some element protection.

i bought an intake pipe from autozone and cut about 2 inches off of the strait end then attached it with silicone couplers that came with it. Then i just cut off the bottom of the air box and supported it with the bracket that came with the intake tube.
