ok, this has happened to me atleast 3 times this winter. I have been on a 2 track and if I get stuck, or stop in deep snow then start up again my motor boggs down and I have no power? I have a clear air filter, less than 1000 miles? I got stuck and almost didn't get out cause everytime I let the clutch out my truck bogged down so bad I couldn't even move the tires? Thanks for your help and insight!

yes, its like the engine doesnt have enough power to turn the wheels. Ive noticed this quite often. I usually end up just using 4-Lo but it is un-acceptable. Also ive noticed if the tires lose traction in the snow it feels like there is a lot of wheel hop and the truck shudders quite violently...i guess i kinda just live with it

I haven't had the troubles you speak of in the snow but I have noticed the same lack of power when I have a huge load of wood in the back and trying to pull a hill without a start. Bugs me a little but I have come to accept it as its only a 4 cylinder.

This lack of power is why I shyed away from the 4 cylinder. It's not that I want to haul ass or anything, I just want to know that the power is there when I need it. I've spent a LOT of time in my uncles 4 banger and it's horrible at times. His truck is 7 years newer then my celica and it has more get up and go. What's more is that they both the the 22RE engine in them (granted his is designed for torque.)

The 4 cylinders seem to bog down badly in these trucks for some reason. It's kind of sad really because it should be the perfect marriage of fuel economy and usability of a truck.

Ive had this problem about three times, in the first year . my wife still says I was in third gear starting out , and ive just come to accept that maybe i was. cause ive not had the problem since.
now i did make the mistake of being in 4wd and cutting the wheel to get out of some deep snow and the wheels were still cut when i hit a patch of dry asphalt.......as you can imagine , the bind in the front stopped me dead and i stalled it..... but that was my fault so i cant blame the truck.
either way good luck.
