Hi, I'm Cory. I'm looking to get a 2001 or 2002 double-cab. According to what I've read, it sounds like the 4-cylinder engine was an option, but I have yet to see one. Everything I see is a V-6. Are they just harder to find, perhaps?

Thanks,
Cory

I got rid of my 99 trd with the 3.4 and now have 98 with the 2.7.,both 5 speed trucks.I now get better milage, and experince no wheelspin anymore, despite the fact that i think ive bent the gas petal now:lol: Oh, neither were doublecabs but i just had to put in my .02$ and say that i miss the driving fun that came with that 40 h.p.:sosad:

I don't know where you are getting your information from. Perhaps you haven't heard the phrase there is no replacement for displacement. The 2.7L 3RZ makes 150 HP@4800 and 177 lb ft of TQ@4000. The 3.4L 5VZ makes 190 HP@4800 RPM with 220 lb ft TQ@3600 RPM. The V6 makes more power, 43 lb ft of TQ, 400 RPM earlier than the 3RZ. That is a pretty big difference.

LDHunter, don't take it as a put down by any means, all I can tell you is he had a 2000 double cab 4 cyl 2 x4and I had a 2000 double 6cyl 4x4. that is where my comparisons come from It could be due to the 4x4 systrem. he had a powerful truck but I could out tow, and get up and go twice as fast. still both very good vehicles. as well as when I traded the four by four in for a 2003 2x4 6 cyl I could tell a big difference between the two drive trains. shoot that 2x4 with the 6 would really go down the road. Now that I am back to a 4x4 2002 ext taco I prefer the 4x4 system. Just my two cents, i had the 4x4 doble in californis and when I moved to colorado needed a 4x4 system back.

Since the 4 cyl has almost exactly the same toque as the 6cyl I can't imagine anyone saying it's underpowered for the 4wd 4 door cab.

I think it's just a Toyota decision.

My 4 cyl 4wd extended cab pulls trailers, plows through suger sand, pulls out stuck American trucks and makes it all look easy.

25mpg without a trailer and 18mpg with a trailer and it never even grunts.
