Gone up Snoqualmie Pass (2,700' climb) and Siskiyou Pass (2,300' climb @6%) a number of times with 2 persons, luggage and golf equipment at the speed limit with no problems. It will downshift to 3rd gear at the steepest climbs.Hey all,
I just purchased a 4 cylinder '07 Camry SE. I have to say that it doesn't have much get up and go but that's not why I purchased it. Anyhow, does anybody have any experience with mountain driving with their 4 cylinder? I may be moving to Colorado soon and will be wanting to go in to the mountains to snowboard and what not. I usually went to Winter Park when I lived there before and there are some pretty steep roads getting there. If anybody has any experience please let me know how it handles.
I should have mentioned that. It's an automatic.5A or 5M transmission?
I've done some mountain driving on my I4 5M. If anything, I shift down to 4th or 3rd. There is a 7% grade that I ascend and descend regularly and my Camry does it just fine in 4th with me and 200lbs of stuff in the back seat and/or trunk. I can accelerate slowly in 4th. Fifth is ok for holding the speed if above 60MPH or so as long as I don't lose any speed or desire to accelerate. I usually shift into 4th though because I know I will lose speed since that grade is fairly twisty.
