i've been slowly piecing together a 91' sedan for a while now...

Flashmn or who ever can help i need to know what my limits are with the 4afe before i blow it up!!!

it's still NA i've been getting the rest of the car ready and now i just need a manifold, and either piggyback map or bleeders either way i need to know if i'm doing something wrong...

how high can i rev NA is the 6300 red-line as high as i can go? and with 7psi can or should i rev as high? and should i retard the timing first?

any advice or details would be appreciated if anybody shows support ill post pics of what i got so far...

im down to 2200lbs. thats like 300lbs. difference!!! and i have a huge stereo!!!

You should really poke around club4ag.com esp. in the 16v section. There is a whole thread on how to turbo a map 4age with stock computer, so the advise in there should help you with your map 4afe.

From what I took from briefly reading through it sounds like an MSD ingition with a manual retard function and a rising rate FPR, also something about a higher reading map sensor but you could ask someone in there about that. As long as you don't go crazy on boost without 4agze pistons or a thicker head gasket 6-7psi somewhat tuned you motor *should* hold together.

As far as tuning without a dyno bare minimum should be a wideband o2 sensor. I think it should be law on toyota nation every post should have pics, so post em' up.

Yea, its limited somewhere there and you can go that high even with boost, 7psi isnt that much, I think I'm running like 10psi or so now.

yeeeech... I'd with a full fuel controller, piggybacks alter signals from sensors, you might have some real issues with that, consider this. The stock pistons are cast and not very strong, dont let it detonate much. Stock fuel pressure regulator will work fine with boost, but you'll need bigger injectors and a way to control them and possibly ignition aswell.

i forgot to mention i did install an FMU that is supposed to be equivalent to a mild tune for up to 14psi i think... it basically senses anything above atmosphere with manifold-vac and closes down the fuel-return line forcing more fuel into the injectors...

will 7mge injectors be good i see them on ebay all the time or should i just look for high impedence dsm or honda injectors?
and how do you do ignition on a distributor with internal igniter? and those cast pistons will hold?

I dont know who said it would be like a mild tune, it wont. Its a bandaid, sure those have been used in the past when standalones cost alot, but hey carbs have been boosted too... I wouldnt run 14psi with a FMU on a 4A-FE.

I have an external ignitor and control unit.

As for injectors, well I cant remember if the stock ones are low or high impedance, they're not cross compatible. Also supra injectors with stock map is going to be something horrible. Your idle will be crazy rich.

The cast pistons will hold if you're not dumb. I did 1 bar boost with them, its alot, but honestly dont push it too much and you're fine.

thanks the sun is out today so i will take pics

how did you use an external igniter if the distributor has internal?
the injectors are high-impedance but without an adjustable FPR how would i adjust idle with bigger injectors? do you recommend the standalone you've got i forgot the brand you said it was fairly common in NZ

p.s. my friend just got a greddy t76 i think it's like the size of my tranny!!! it's for his RB-26 ill try to snag a pic

an adjustable FPR wont help you with the big injectors, well obviously you cant adjust them with the stock ECU. Problem is if you adjust it with the fpr to lower pressure, then your overall fuel pressure will be lower.

Yeah, but mine controls injection only, its KMS and its fairly common in europe, dunno about NZ...

And I use a external ignition module, because I'm running a standalone ignition system, the distributor only distributes the spark to the correct cyl.

OUCH! haha

ok to be fair this is a project and im speechless that i actually made Flashmn speechless!!!
it was all worth it

i am in the process of painting you can tell if you looked at my hood and im also getting the cheapest lightest flat black rims i can find in 15" as soon as my tires are gone (still new)

BUT when its all said and done i will be satin flat black and i like the painting the tach idea never thought about it

You might have guessed but this isn't my girl-getter i just love the beating this car takes and it's the fastest 4afe in North-Central Florida lol...

I still don't understand how you can run external ignition on our distributor...

the 4age has an external igniter easily replaced but don't we have an internal ignitor? i haven't seen anything that would indicate external ignition or i probably would have asked a long time ago!

Who says I'm using the stock ignitor? :D

I'm using the basic Bosch ignitor. I dont have anything inside the distributor that would control ignition. I have a hall-trigger on the crankshaft pulley and thats what triggers the ignition controller and coil (external also) and the injection controller.
