Hello to all. I’m in the market for a ‘Better’ trans for my 94 Tercel fitted with a 4EFTE. It has the stock transmission from the tired 3EE that was in from the factory. Could anyone send me a link (if there is one) on what transmissions fit best for the 4EFTE in a Tercel? I heard talks of C-series fitting and bell housing swapping for some. There also may be a six speed option as well? Axle sizes and such as well are appreciated. This car is nothing fancy for track use, just daily driven, but i don’t mind having the better options for future. Thanks in advance.

C52 and C56 trannys are from the 4efte so they'll bolt up to a 5efe. More info is here.

The C60 tranny was the 6 speed and it could be made to work as I vaguely recall?? Sigh as always an exact how to was on "Terecelonline" .... now long gone. <img src="http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Frown" class="inlineimg" />

Thank you for this. It was a big help. I was snooping around some of the other forums and found a lot of guys complaining that the 6 speed gear was not all that great of a swap. I don’t want to make things too complicated lol. But I have been back and forth on the idea to see if I like the configuration

Lower revs at highway speed and a higher top end but folks say it's a weaker box?? 166 mph top end and a 4.59 final driver ratio. But most likely you'd needed at least 250 hp to take advantage of that?? And "they say" the C 160 box is weaker?? It seems like a bit of hassle for a DD??? A 5 speed that is know to fit seems simpler and more reliable???

I think I’m convinced on staying with the 5 speed options. It’s seems a lot more easier and hassle free.

What was the deal with the Starlet Glanza and GT transmissions? Was the axle on the passenger side (I think) too long or short to fit in a Tercel?? I heard rumor there’s an axle (from a Corolla or something similar) that you can get to fit perfectly.

easy option is the paseo 5 speed little better gearing for your 4e engine but it has a 6 bolt diff which is hard to find LSD for. the c50 5 speed from the scion xb/xa has the shortest gears and an 8 bolt diff which LSD are a dime a dozen but you have to swap bell housings(but both of the tercels transmission mounts fits to it unlike a c52 from a corolla)

Thank you! This is GOLD. I recently just found a perfect Paseo on the scrap yard with a trans, rear sway bar, front sway bar, and gauge cluster with a Tac. I was hesitant about grabbing the trans from it, but if it goes for a good price I’ll grab it. As far as the axles, will the Tercel axles still fit on the C50’s?

Im pretty sure you have to use the scion axles the spline count is different on the diffs, or use a hybrid axle (scion inner CV and tercel outer CV) again easy button will be the paseo trans especially if your not planning on using a LSD
