4gen 5sfe max speed

hi guys, i tried maxing out my camry last night and it only got up to 110 mph then the speed limiter kicks in. it feels like the tranny just slipped into neutral (i have automatic). im not planning to race or anything but it feels like the car's engine still wants to go more. the only engine mod that i have is just short ram intake. the question is: is there a way to bypass the speed limiter or increase the speed limit? if so, what device can you use for that?

i've searched through the forum and i cant find any answer.

ps: when i got home that night, i popped the hood and i saw my header/downpipe was flaming red. is this normal? is it going to cause any problem?

why do you need to go above 110mph?

think of how much heat would be generated by exhaust gasses travelling that fast, i'm not surprised the header was red.
If you are not ever planning to race then you don't need to go that fast.

Not that I condone driving at such speeds, even though I have in the past:slap: , I have gotten my Gen 3 5sfe Camry with over 200,000 miles with auto to 126mph, with 100 lbs of equipment and 2 passengers.

I managed to average over 100 mph for 2 hours in NM, and gas consumption at full throtle was 18mpg, or ~280miles on one tank.

Then a cop pulled me over, while going 97mph, I deserved it. Glad I got pulled over, taught me a lesson, and made me realize how stupid and dangerous it was driving that fast.

Honestly it was one of the stupidest thing I have ever done. Whats the point of going that fast? Only thing it's good for is getting yourself killed.

You don't need to go that fast.
ya.. i just feel that the engine can go much more than that.. it wasnt even redlining when i got to that speed. i think california camrys get their speed limited to a lower speed..
You can goto your local dealer and they should be able to take the rev limiter out, however it might void your warrante

(took enuf msgs to get the simple answer hey??) :)
there are rev and speed limiters is camrys now?
not that i am aware of , maybe it is just for the states :p:

because here, they are just considering installing them in the new cars
hmm maybe i should buy the ECU from Australia.. is the speed limiter built into the ECU or is it external to the ECU?
should be built in

im not entirely sure about not having a Rev/Speed limiter, but I am about 95% sure it doesnt
but if you are seriously thinking about getting such ECU, I would do some further research into it
dont just take my word on it :p:
2 questions.

Since this is on this topic...

When does Gen4's or what ever redline? how many rpms

And when should the governer kick in? I've heard conflicting reports...Some say like 110 like him, and others say like 120-130...
i forgot what the redline is for gen4.. probably its around 6000 ish rpm..
as for the speed limiter i think it depends on what model and what state you're in.. if anyone in CA with a gen4 5sfe can confirm the 110 speed limiter then i might be right. 1mzfe might have higher speed cut off.. but then im not sure about that..
i hit 126 also
