I have a 1997 camry 2.2.It is returning and average of 23 mpg. Highway it reaches 24-26mpg (best to date) and city 19mpg (was as bad as 17.5mpg) Im looking for ideas on how to improve and/or what might be wrong. Here is a list of what i have done to try and remedie;

-New timing belt set (inc. all idlers,tensioner)
-new fuel filter , gas line as well (dont ask)
-Both o2 sensors replaced, used boch oem style
-new air filter k&n drop in
-new platinum plugs wires cap about 10k ago
-transmission flush, used mobil1 synthetic ATF
-axles case drained used mobil1 ATF
-new tires,32psi alwayas checked
-i have retuned the results for fuel milage by filling it then driving half tank refilling it and checking it.I drive it like grandpa trying to squeeze milage out of it

I have always maintained the car and never had any problems till now.the car Was driven by my dad for roughly 65k miles since new,we always used mobil1 and kept up all maintenence. It now has 98,300 and he always returned near 30mpg combined driving. did almost 35mpg on highway trips.So i am lost now, i figure im near 6-10 mpg off normal. NEEd Help! any ideas?????

A bad thermostat or bad Temp sensor for the computer can both cause poor mileage. Also brakes dragging slightly will add to the problem.
