5sfe Engine timing advancement?

2116 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  RichieRichJP
Hey guys, My question is about advancing timing on the 5sfe found from 97-01, would the only way to advance timing would be to control the ignitiion system? or is there another way that timing could be advanced through crank sensor?

i think you have to have a btM. AFAIK, you're not supposed to advance timing. The stock timing is 10 degrees and if anything, don't go lower than 8 on a turbo. So I've read.
I don't know too much about timing myself

the msd btm won't work for 97-01 5sfe because we're distributorless. The only thing I remember working was the split second tmc1 but it uses the ignition system. I'm in the same boat as you, let me know if there is another option

Boost Timing Master

MSD does sell ignitions for distributorless cars, if I remember correctly. You should call them and ask. I still haven't looked into it that much yet, but it's actually on the top of my list, that is if I get my turbo parts soon
