I just bought an 82 supra and now I'm a bit worried about the radiator fluid being murky. Also When I got home from a 3 hr drive I noticed some radiator fluid had spilled out from the overflow. I don't think it had overheated on the way home since I was watching that most of the time. Also checked the oil and did not see any white/water at least i think not. The oil was very low though, added a quart. I had noticed some white smoke and dripping of water at start up originaly but that seemed to go away after driving it for a bit and didn't happen when I started it later. Just worried that it could be the head gasket? Is that likely? the supra only has 91,000 miles on it.:sosad:

The 5M-GE's weren't notorious for BHG's like the 7M's were (unless this car has a Motor swap) but that's not to say it's impossible for it to go out.

I'd keep an eye on it. Check the oil levels religiously, same with the coolant. If things change we'll go from there.

Assuming the 5M is like the 7M, the gaskets on the covers that surround the spark plug valley are quite leaky with old age and heat. Is the white from high heat and ash (like this:)

Or is it something else?

the white on your spark plug ONLY means the cylinder is heaing up and burning either coolant and/or water, thus meaning you didnt blow your headgaskt but it is leaking, and the overflow is the head from the combusion causing the coolant to expand and it has nowhere to go accept the resivor
