I have an 87 MR2 and if i start it cold i have no problems and if i start it warm i have to put my foot to the floor to get it to start. Also when i put the car in drive with it warm it tends to shudder and stall out, especially of i put the car in reverse and the head lights on. Any ideas would be nice as its giving me a headache.

Well MR 2Bad your retarded because I have owned many MKIs and it looks like you drive an MKII. Im going to go out on a limb and say that I know more than you do with these cars.

I don't know how they do things down in Arkansas, maybe cars that have heavy body kits, ridiculous wings, and pointless scopes need to over heat their coolant to get that nice fluffy rice that they love so much. But I personally don't think thats the way to go. Ill let that one slide, don't be ignorant. This is what America is coming to.:disappoin

^ I think you need to chill out with the bashing, because you seem to taking it way to serious.

And Russell is right, It probably doesnt have anything to do with the coolant system. You could own 100,000 MR2's and still know nothing about how cars work. There is nothing in a cooling system that would prevent a car from starting. Even if the sensors were all bad, it will still start. Its true that the ECU would go into "default mode" if one of the sensors were bad, but that would just keep the Cold start injector from firing...... which means it wouldnt start in the cold.

anyway....

Check your Throttle position sensor. Variation in temperature can cause the resistence to change in a TPS, especially if its malfuctioning or has moisture buildup. That may be one of the reasons for having a hard time starting it.

The shuddering and stalling could be a Vacuum leak. These engines are very prone to that. Especially when warmed up. An air Bubble in the coolant system could cause an irratic or bouncing idle. but stalling....no

I agree nothing with the coolant would keep the car from starting, but that isn't the issue here. It starts and stalls out and I have experienced this and it very well could be this.

I could care less about his juvenile comments, but thats not the greatest way to be welcomed as a new member. It just doesn't seem very logical to me.

OK, Welcome to TN.
You offered the same solution for 2 different problems on this forum....I do call that retarded. Not a direct attack on you, just your suggestion.I've been on this forum for years, have given help and recieved it.Now you are attacking me personally. I'm not from Arkansas. You know nothing about me...
Don't be such a noob...chill

I thought of maybe getting a new Lightened Aluminum Pulley. But the only place I know that makes them is Unorthodox racing. I bought a set for my Spyder. ($200.00 for the crank pulley-8oz. I forgot how much the alternator pulley was). But it was still cheaper than OEM.
I checked for you and they don't make them for the 1st gen MR2's. Sorry
Maybe someone else makes one??? Just a thought/suggestion
