That's from the rust - Get thee to the Net, pilgrim... ;-)
Out here in the greater Los Angeles area there are wrecking yards
specializing in almost every brand and model imaginable. You can find
shops specializing in Mustang parts, Corvette parts, Fairlady (Datsun
Z) parts, DeLorean "Snowmobile" parts, Opel GT parts, Porsche Parts,
Rolls Royce parts, Model T parts...
Ed Cholakian Enterprises Inc. (
www.allcads.com ) is a big '40's and
'50's Cadillac dismantler, collector and restorer, and he has a big
yard with Caddies going back to the thirties. And a warehouse full of
restored cars. Call - if they don't have it, they can help you find
it. Word has it they're good people.
Then you have the Petersen Automotive Museum, the Nethercutt (San
Sylmar) Collection Museum with a huge automotive reference library...
Heck, Jay Leno's private car and motorcycle collection is big enough
he could start a museum too.
We have a wonderful thing called a movie industry, and they call the
specialty collectors to rent proper period cars for film and TV
shoots. And if a certain period car needs a bit of fixing up for the
'role' (or one of the actors wrecks it during a take) they need
specialty parts, so there's a healthy market.
There were three or four dismantling yards in Southern California
that were either Corvairs Only or had special sections set up for them
- some had to expand out to 'all early Chevrolets' to pay the rent,
but still had a large selection of goodies. Haven't needed one
lately, but they should still exist.
And of course, there are the Toyota Specialists including Marv
Specter (
www.sor.com ) who does everything and anything LandCruiser
with a bit of Hilux - Tacoma - Tundra and SUV's thrown in.
