(LAST UPDATE 10/10/11)

I purchased the truck on July 13th and I'm slowly but surely fixing it up. It was a rough start but after putting in a new alternator and battery (the first week of ownership :disappoin) its purred like a kitten! I've been dropping some money into it recently and thought I'd start a thread, if for nothing else just for me to keep track of everything. Picked up a new set of doors and replaced the passenger side that had some damage and a plexi insert. Put on a new set of side mirrors since it had none. Pulled and painted the old peeling chrome grill. Added my Hella 500 fogs to the top of the tube bumper and re-wired all 4 Hella's. Have it at the glass shop right now getting the (original ) windshield pulled and resealed. Had some issues with the drivers side pinch weld as it was partially rotted out, so I'm having that fixed before the windshield goes back in. Hope to have the truck back tomorrow, it was hard enough to get it away from the GF . It's been a crazy busy summer, so now that things are slowing down some I hope to get a few more things done before winter. This truck has been a ton of fun, and I can really see myself making a hobby out of these old yotas! :smokin:

That looks like a ton of fun. Keep up the progress and keep us posted. Most importantly, make the best use of that thing.

Thanks man, I'll be sure to! :chug:

I picked up the truck today. The glass re-install went well and everything looks good. Should be put to the test with the rain coming this weekend. Went out for a drive tonight and got caught without my good lens. Was still worth a pic though.

Nice! Its good to buy them with sliders, bumpers, and lockers already installed. I dropped a load of cash for the small ammount of things i've bought and I'm no where near done.

We need to go romping in them some time, but nothing to serious I like mine to much to tear it up.

Also since your local, if you ever see a nice 85', 22RE, XTRA cab, SR5 for sale around here please get ahold of me.

I wouldn't mind rompin one bit :D, wouldn't have to be anything too hardcore. I'm more of a trail guy myself.

I'll keep an eye out for sure. I see 4-5 different late 80's trucks rolling around town on a regular basis. Two of which are fully restored and flat bedded. Would love for one of those to go on the market!

You need to move this to the 79-88 hilux forum.

Oh how do you like the aussie locker? I've been waiting over a month for them to get a shipment from australia!
Well I started my thread here cause it might get lost after a few days in the pre-88 forum, and this is the place for truck builds.

The Aussie is sweet! I get questions a lot about the clicking when I turn. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about engaging anything.

Snapped a few pics today, thought I'd share.

I finally got around to fixing my wheel issues today!

I've had a bouncy, rough ride (mainly in the front) since I got the truck, and for a while I just assumed it was the tires as they're pretty beat up. Upon further inspection I noticed that the lugs were acorn style with a VERY short shank, plus the washers are oval when regular round fit the rims. This was causing the wheel to be off centered on the hub causing my bouncy (up and down) ride. I have an alignment scheduled for next week so I needed to get this done pronto. Called up my buddy at Car Quest and he got me 6 sets of 4 lugs for right around $60 . The new lugs have twice the shank length and seat down in the rim deeper so I'm getting a lot more bite now. The new lug size is M12 x 1.50 RH.

The pics speak for themselves...

Before

After

The ride is amazingly better! No more hoping, and it cut down the drivers side pull by half. Next weeks alignment should take care of the rest!

Looking good, I really like that moon roof. Makes me want one
The moon roof is one of my favorite things about the truck! Really helps to brighten the cab, and make it feel a little more open. I hope to make it functional again sometime next spring!

In other news...

I did my every few days look-over on the truck and have noticed that the rear diff is leaking from the plug and around the shaft. Must address this soon!

Any hints as to what they are?
Rear window center glass, and a new heat/ac control panel to name a couple. Not sure if it's going to go down though, the communication hasn't been the greatest and its been nearly a month since HE contacted me and got this process started. Would really like to get going on this as I was about to purchase some things on ebay when he contacted me. Been a few days since I've heard from him so I'll be shooting off another message tomorrow.
