So I was switching my old instrument cluster out with one that had a tach and I wanted to put my correct odometer in the new cluster. I wasn’t exactly careful when removing the speedo face and the plastic part holding the clockspring for the needle came with it. I was able to get it to function properly without the gauge face on but as soon as I put it back on the needle won’t move all the way back to zero because it gets snagged. Does anyone know of any way to replace this or fix it?

Use the speedo head from the new cluster it's not worth trying to repair that. FYI you can swap just the odo digits by carefully prying the melted plastic bits away. Tape the numbers first so they don't move.

I figured that would be the consensus on it. After a couple hours of trying to figure out why the numbers weren’t lining up I finally got the donor odo adjusted to the correct mileage. It was already broken out from previous owner so I just went that route ( just a tad bit harder). Just out of curiosity though, there isn’t any other way of fixing the spring? I hate the idea of breaking something that isn’t being reproduced anymore.

The spring has to be wound to the correct tension how are you going to know what that is?

Why'd you take the face off? If you have the right cluster, you swap the whole assembly (faceplate and all) over to the new tach cluster.

Factory didn’t have tach. Odometer in the new one was way higher and didn’t work most of the time. But the face plates weren’t the same and there was no way I could make it fit without it laying on top of the fuel gauge.
