Hello to All!!!
I have an 89 SR5 4x4 with the 22re engine from an '87. I just purchased this truck and it was running sporatically when purchased. I got it checked out by a mechanic and he said the wiring harness was shot from the previous owner putting in the motor. Also, gonna need to do clutch work and have the fuel system cleaned out. Quoted me around $2000. Well, I was thinking and figured that if I was going to spend that amount of money, I would find a used v6 or v8 to drop in. I have no clue what fits, matches to factory parts, etc...If anyone has done this before or know of how to do it or has tips for me, please let me know!!! I am looking for motors that will fit right in with nothing else, or maybe something that I can find to replace the transfer case and tranny with the motor.(needs to line up with front axle) I definately want to go with a carbeurated motor. Like I said, if you know of anyone who has done a project like this before or a website that has info on this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I have done a little more research and found out a couple of motors for this swap. I can go with a 3.8 V6, a 4.3V6, a Ford 302 V8 or a 350 V8. The 3.8, as I am told will bolt right up to the tranny. All the others will require adapters that will cost roughly $1400 to $2000. Any opinions in what should be done here? Any info will greatly help. Thanks alot!!!

Also, does anyone know where I can get these motors or motors and tranny/transfer case for cheap????

Your mechanic is not honest telling you that you need a fueld system cleaning? you are not driving a Ford.
Find a friend, relative, neighbour or co-worker who works on cars as a hobby and they will do you a favour or trade services or find local off-road 4x4 clubs as those folks love Toyotas and know them inside out and do these repairs in 5 minutes not $2000.
