I am looking to upgrade my headlights to 9012 bulbs as I have seen suggested in the past, but I am not sure what bulbs to go with. Locally all I can find are Sylvania bulbs.
Many posts mention Philips, but there are different varieties of Phillips 9012 bulbs, and all the posts I found are rather old.

What are the best 9012 bulbs these days? I want better visibility, but also don't want them crapping out in 8-10 months like high end Sylvania bulbs.

I bought Phillips High beams 9011 HIR1 PX20D and Phillips low beams 9012 HIR2 PX22D 3rd GEN a few years ago (In 2015) and one 9012 just burnt out 8 months ago. Had to trim the bulb tabs and all that. They lasted quite a while and when on country roads at night with High beams on they are GREAT!!

Lots of good info and where I purchased bulbs at:

But they retired and person who took it over at:

Died 2 months later and they are closed. Apparently there are many fake bulbs out there.

The only Philips 9012 bulbs I seem to find these days are the blue tinted ones that burn out fast. Might just settle for some Sylvania Xtravision 9012 bulbs. Not sure the whiter light is worth double price for 1/3-1/4 the lifespan, granted I have never driven a vehicle with whiter lights. Also, fun fact, Sylvania is made by Osram, who's name I see on the bulbs suggested above.

It has been 6 years or so since I did the research and so possibly there has been consolidation in the industry since then. I did recently buy these HIR2 replacements made in South Korea:

Based on the pictures it seems the Sylvania basic 9012's are repackaged Philips 9012-LL's (their basic 9012 they only sell as singles). I could get a 2 pack of them repackaged as Sylvanias. Might go that route as all the blue bulbs seem to have crap life and I drive an hour every weekday in the dark for most of the year.

The name "HELLA" sounded janky and cheapy, but looks like Amazon has some pretty good reviews and they CLAIM to be long life. They're also not tinted so their color must just be their actual color. Have heard the tinted ones burn out sooner from being made to burn hotter to make up for output losses from the tint.

Hella is or was these premier fog light manufacturer in the world at one time. Many used on rally cars and European based. They do have a good reputation. That is why I went with them instead (and they are priced better).

I don't really care about the blue tint myself. More of a trend...................in my opinion. Long life and brightness are good. I like warm white around 3000K for interior lighting.. 6000K is too harsh for me.

What do you use for high beams? Looks like I can't figure and Hella 9011 bulbs. Do I just use some other 9011, or stick to the 9005's. Not sure who might make 4300k high beams to match the hella lows.

I still have the Phillips 9011 HIR2 bulbs from 6 years ago. Used less and thus will last longer. I love driving on country roads at night with highs on and the dash lights turned off. Great visibility!! 9011's are available also on Rockauto I believe but I would have to look at the brand. Look here but the numbers are somewhat different........Euro numbers I believe............H11 vs 9011 it get confusing
